Hi. I'm considering the possibility of working for Yahoo! There is no
question that this would be a dream job. I've spent 10+ years working
in the emarketing space in finance and publishing. I had a bad
experience in 1999 with a small dot com and yes, I am one of those dot
com refugees they spoke about (I went back to working for the bank
with my tail between my legs - and all my options went 'poof'. Now
here I am thinking about doing it again (slow learner).... but this
time I'd like to go in with eyes wide open (like Tom Cruse). My
questions would be the typical ones that a candidate would ask so they
are fairly general in nature:

Does Yahoo have a reputation as a good place to work?
Is "Fun, friendly and trustworthy" a slogan or do they really live this?
Does Yahoo pay well (this is a senior marketing role)? What would market rate be?
Is the company financially stable? What's its outlook (I know that
online advertising has recovered lately)
What's its business model? How do they make money?
Any good or bad news of late?
How do they stand on corporate governance - ie. any accounting
irregularities that could blow them up a la Tyco/Enron?
Any good sites, books or articles that contain company background,
approach, philosophy ect.. you could suggest that would help me
impress them at a possible interview would also be appreciated.

I know I have broken the "Ask a question" rules by incorporating so
many questions here, but they are simply meant to guide you in your
search.

One last point - the possible position is in Australia, so if you
could answer the question from that context, that would be
appreciated.

Dear Drew,

I cannot answer all of your questions, and the ones I could, are based
on industry rumours and the media - not exactly exact information:
- It is a good place to work for; but very competetive and long hours
(which I guess you're used to); salaries are normal/high to this kind
of businesses.
- The prospects are currently good (stocks up, etc.)
