Hi Hadler1,

I've searched the web extensively and the only direct reference to Swat
Mulligan is on The Society for American Baseball Research's site (SABR).

There is a thread on the SABR-L mailing list titled "Swat" Mulligan. It is from
1986 and its log number is LOG9603C.
http://www.sabr.org/sabr/sabr-l/index96.html

The only way to access this information is to be a member of SABR. Membership
fees start at $30.
http://sabr.safeshopper.com/1/cat1.htm?172

SABR also has a fee-based research service that should help you find the
correct answer. The cost is based on the number of citations or references that
are returned based on your question. The cost of this service for non-SABR
members starts at $4.
http://www.sabr.org/tbi/dataserv.htm#request
The SABR has a Biographical Research Committee and according to its website,
it " collects birth and death data, as well as other vital statistics, on the
more than 14,000 players and managers to appear in the major leagues since
1871. The committee provided more than 7,000 corrections to the 1988 edition of
The Baseball Encyclopedia, and also supplies data to The Sports Encyclopedia:
Baseball and Total Baseball."
So odds are that if Swat Mulligan does exist, they'll have data on him.
Here are MLB players whose last name is Mulligan:
Edward Joseph Mulligan (Eddie)
http://www.baseball-reference.com/m/mullied01.shtml

Dick Mulligan
http://www.baseball-reference.com/m/mullidi01.shtml

Joe Mulligan
http://www.baseball-reference.com/m/mullijo02.shtml

John Mulligan
http://www.baseball-reference.com/m/mullijo01.shtml

Sean Mulligan
http://www.baseball-reference.com/m/mullise01.shtml
I could not, however, connect any of them with the nickname "Swat." Eddie
Mulligan's name did come up during a search using the terms " eddie mulligan
and swat and baseball", however, there was no direct connection between the
nickname and his given name. Joe Mulligan was nicknamed "Big Joe", so it's
unlikely that he's the one you're looking for and I didn't find a nickname
listed for the other players.
I searched for
swat mulligan
"swat" mulligan
eddie mulligan
eddie mulligan and swat
mulligan
on the following sites (among others):
http://www.baseball-reference.com/
http://www.baseball-almanac.com/
http://www.historicbaseball.com
I also used the terms:
swat mulligan
"swat" mulligan
folklore and baseball
folklore and swat mulligan
legend or folklore and swat mulligan

on Google, Yahoo!, About.com, and AltaVista

and went to all of the baseball sites in the following Google categories
Major League
http://directory.google.com/Top/Sports/Baseball/Major_League/?tc=1
Players
http://directory.google.com/Top/Sports/Baseball/Players/
History

Hi,

I have checked all my baseball sources from
http://www.geocities.com/allaboutSport and didn't find Swat Mulligan, nor in
Google, nor other SEs. Is it possible you have the wrong firstname? Do you know
the years of activity?

thanks for clarifying...

I read on a members-only list over at SABR (the Society for American Baseball
Research - http://www.sabr.org) that "Swat" Mulligan is a folklore character
similar to Paul Bunyan (except, obviously, a baseball player).

In the possibility that the first name is right and the last is wrong I found a
player with the name "Swat McCabe"

He played professionally from 1909-1910 and his stats can be found here:
