Do you have any other information about this company? Where it was
located, etc? Any information you already have would be very helpful.

I will likely have to make a phone call in the morning. I have found
no information about this company online. A Business Entity search on
the Utah Department of Commerce website turned up zero results. Either
the company has dissolved or has been bought out and goes under a
different name. However, it is suprising that you were not notified of
past actions if you are a stockholder.

Do you know the names of any of the company's principals? Was
Whittington the name of the owner as well? Do you think it was a small
time operation that incorporated in Utah and went bankrupt?

Is it possible that the following reference to Jones and Whittington
Oil Company could involve the same Whittington?

Scroll down to see Jones & Whittington Oil Company

Unfortunately, I cannot find anything about Jones & Whittington
either, other than this one reference!

Hello, sr429-ga!

Finding the answer to your question is another example of bureaucracy
and "red tape"!

It took several phone calls, a live chat session and an email to find
the skinny on this company! However, I believe I have gotten to the
bottom of the barrel (so to speak) about where "Whittington Oil Co."
stands today.

I will sum up what I have found and then take you through the route I
followed to get there.

==

Whittington Oil Company changed their name to Louisiana-Pacific
Resources, Inc. in 1971. In 1991, Louisiana Pacific Resources allowed
their corporate registration to expire due to their failure to file an
annual report. There is no further information on the company.
Unfortunately, your stock likely has no value.

The Utah address on file for Louisiana Pacific before their expiration was:
PO BOX 146705, Salt Lake City, Utah

The last known address for Louisiana-Pacific Resources, Inc. is:

 4459 Pointe West Drive
 Shreveport, Louisiana 71119

There is no current listing for this company in the Internet Yellow
pages for Louisiana.

In case you are interested in the process I went through to find this
information, I have outlined the steps below.

1. After a general internet search returned no results, I went to the
online site for the Utah Department of Commerce at
http://www.commerce.utah.gov/.

I clicked on the Corporations link: http://www.commerce.utah.gov/cor/index.html,

and then on the "Searches" link: http://www.commerce.utah.gov/cor/searches.htm

I then searched by "Business Entity" https://secure.utah.gov/bes/bes

* The search for Whittington Oil Co., Inc. (and other variations in
name) came up empty.

==

2. This morning, I called the Utah Dept. of Commerce and Commercial Codes at
1-801-530-4849. I spoke with a Customer Service Rep who looked up
Whittington Oil Co. in their database. She told me they had changed
their name to Louisiana-Pacific Resources and that "it had expired."
She didn't know what that meant and she told me there was no further
information.

==

3. The fact that there was "no further information" got to me, so I
went back to the Business Entity search to look up Louisiana-Pacific
Resources, Inc. and had no results!

==

4. I then went onto a live chat session offered by the Dept. of
Commerce, which I have included for amusement purposes!

Jason: Hello.

umiat: Hi, Jason. I am trying to find out if Whittington Oil stock is
still viable. A customer service rep at the Dept of Commerce said they
had changed their name to Louisiana Pacific Resources, but said there
was no paper trail I can follow. That doesn't make sense. I thought
there were certain filings a company had to go through.

Jason: This link shows the companies in utah. http://secure.utah.gov/bes/bes

umiat: I have already used that link and Whittington oil comes up
empty. A search under Louisiana Pacific Resources, Inc. also pulls up
nothing. The customer rep said she found something that said "expired"
but she could tell me nothing further about the company, any contact
information, etc.

Jason: The Division of Corporations might have more information.

umiat: What is their contact information - either phone or website?

Jason: I could transfer you to live chat.

** Please hold while being transferred to Janeen, Utah Div of Corp &
Comm Code. ** You are now speaking with Janeen, Utah Div of Corp &
Comm Code. **

Janeen: Greetings! Thank you for contacting the Utah Div. of
Corporations & Commercial Code! One moment please and I will research
that information.

Janeen: Thanks for waiting. I found Whittington Oil Co which changed
its name 10/04/71 to Louisiana-Pacific Resources, Inc. The corporation
registration became expired 06/01/91 for failure to file an annual
report. What information were you looking for?

umiat: I was wondering if stock bought in the original company,
Whittington Oil, is still viable. It sounds as though it is not! Is
there any public contact information to find out anything further?
Would the stock be worth anything?

Janeen: Since the corporation is expired, the stock has no value. You
can contact the last known officers for information about the
distribution of the corporate assets when the corporation was closed.
When you search the Business Entity Search be sure to check the last
known corp name as I have typed it above.

(Your party has left this session.)

* Unfortunately, Janeen left the session before I could tell her that
I could not get the name of Pacific-Resources, Inc. to pull up any
information!!!!!

5. I called the Dept. of Commerce again, and explained that I could
not pull up the name of the company to search out any information.
They gave me the Entity number of the Corporation so I could search
successfully. (Incidentally, I have since been able to pull up the
name by leaving off the Inc. at the end)

The Entity number for Louisiana-Pacific Resources, Inc. is 553864-0142

If you type the entity number into the search box on the Dept. of
Commerce website it will bring up Louisiana-Pacific Resources, Inc.
http://secure.utah.gov/bes/bes

Then you can click on "Details" for the additional information, which
follows below:

Now, where does that leave you? If you held a lot of stock and you
are interested in whether there "might" be some value, you could try
writing to the Shreveport address and see if your mail gets fowarded.
You can also try a www.whitepages.com search under the individual
names and see if you find a match. (Hint: I did find a possible match
under one of the more unusual names on the list, but there is no way
of knowing for sure) If you think you might have found a match, I
suggest writing, rather than calling!)

One last point....as I brought up in my clarification, it is unusual
that you were not notified of the name change of this company if you
are the original stockholder. Perhaps you changed your address and the
notice did not get to you.

I hope I have helped to unravel this mystery for you. Though the news
is not good, at least you can "decide what direction to take" should
you decide to follow up on this matter.

Best of luck, and thank you for leading me on an interesting search!

Hello again, sr429!
I forgot to mention that I had called the Utah Dept. of Commerce and
Commercial Codes to find out if there was any record online of the
actual name change from Whittington Oil Co. to Louisiana-Pacific
Resources, Inc. The customer service rep told me there was no record
available online, but she would fax me a copy of the actual
name-change form for my records if I needed it. Of course, I have no
reason to have it, but you might want it for a "paper trail".
Again, you can call the Utah Dept. of Commerce at 1-801-530-4849.
Just stay on the line, or press "0" immediately to talk to a
representative.
