I found a web site that explains in great detail exactly how to do these calculations. It provides three seperate equations, depending on how precise you are interested in being, and how precise the equipment you are using is. (The Most precise equation requires 15 digits of accuracy.) Meridian World Data http://www.meridianworlddata.com/Distance-Calculation.asp Glad to help! googlebrain-ga Search Strategy: distance equation lat lon ://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&q=distance+equation+lat+lon |

I have a javascript calculator I saved on my laptop (I use it during hurricane season for estimating earliest landfall). I found it at http://williams.best.vwh.net/gccalc.htm and saved it to my disk for off line use. Google search criteria was great + circle +calculator. |

Also - How Far Is It? http://www.indo.com/distance/ "This service uses data from the US Census and a supplementary list of cities around the world to find the latitude and longitude of two places, and then calculates the distance [http://www.indo.com/distance/distance-details.html] between them (as the crow flies). It also provides a map showing the two places, using the Xerox PARC Map Server [http://pubweb.parc.xerox.com/map]. Various query formats [http://www.indo.com/distance/dist-formats.html] are allowed; for example: Chicago, IL Jakarta 40:26:26N 79:59:46W Athens, Greece" huntsman |
