Question ID: 316789
Can you tell me about an English or Irish Landscape Artist that signs
paintings as "A Spencer". Toward the bottom of the "P" in "Spencer"
the artist adds a little flag to further personalize the signature. I
have an oil painting by this artist that is titled "A Devon Landscape"
that was purchased from a NYC gallery somewhere between 1930 and 1950.
It is about 28 X 35 with an original museum gold-leafed frame. I
would like to find our anything about the artist.

Thanks

Hi grat,

I believe I have located the painter you are seeking. However, there
is very little information available online about this artist.

Please take a look at the painting below and let me know if this
resembles the style of the painting you own, including the type of
frame and the signature (A. Spencer, with a small "a")

Waiting to hear your views.

grat-
I'm glad it's the same one. Would you like me to post the very little
information I was able to locate about this artist?
If so, you may want to reduce the price of this question.

Rainbow~

Thanks for the offer to reduce the price but before I do, is there a
way to determine the approximate value of this painting?

Hi grat,

Unfortunately I cannot determine the value of your painting. However,
I was able to locate a site of listings up for auction and the
estimated prices. Included in this list is one painting by this artist
which is described as Oil on Canvasboard, Berkshire Cottage, signed.

On another site, with a subscription fee, you can receive the auction
results of 6 different paintings by this artist. Three of the titles
contain the word landcape. Therefore, there is a possibility one of
these paintings could be similar to the one you own, if not the same.

Waiting to hear from you.

Best regards,
Rainbow~

Hi grat,

The painting you own was painted by the artist Augustus Spencer.

Below is a brief biography of this painter:

Spencer, Augustus ARCA (London)

R.C.A. 1900-1920. Died on 3rd October 1924."
