Hello Margaret10~
There are three basic eating disorders:
1. Anorexia Nervosa; anorexics have significant weight loss due to
excessive dieting. The disorder is characterized by a feeling of
fatness, even when the patient is under weight, or even close to death
due to starving. Common symptoms of anorexia include: striking weight
loss, extreme exercising, fatigue, a feeling of always being cold,
obsession with food/calories/etc., discomfort around food,
complaining of being fat even when thin, depression, mood swings,
wearing big clothes to hide weight loss, constantly checking the
scale, irregular heartbeat, hair loss, and insomnia.
2. Bulimia Nervosa; bulimics binge eat, and then make themselves vomit
or have diarrhea to purge their bodies of the food. Binging cannot be
defined by eating large quantities of food, however. For some
bulimics, a piece of fruit may be a ?binge.? Instead of/in addition to
vomiting or causing diarrhea, some bulimics will exercise excessively,
fast, use diet pills, etc. Common symptoms of bulimia include:
Bathroom visits immediately after eating, weight fluctuations, broken
blood vessels, excessive exercising, fasting, fatigue, weakness, sore
throat, depression, mood swings, tooth decay, irregular heart beat,
cathartic colon, and low blood pressure.
3. Compulsive eating; compulsive over-eaters literally eat
uncontrollably and therefore fain weight. Usually, the overeating is a
way of dealing with stress and emotions. Compulsive over-eaters are
often career dieters, but dieting is interrupted by compulsive eating,
and so fails. Common symptoms of compulsive eating include: Binge
eating, dieting often, seeming to eat little in public but remaining
overweight, depression, weight gain, high blood pressure, and high
cholesterol levels. Sometimes also called Binge Eating Disorder.
There are also ?variants of disordered eating that do not meet the
diagnostic criteria for anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa.? (?Other
Eating Disorders,? International Eating Disorder Referral

variants are similar to any of the named eating disorders, but have
personal variations.
