In the USA, discrimination due to race, age, sex or color is illegal. Enforcement however is difficult. Most corporations and small businesses are completely fair to minorities in the early recruitment stage, sometimes to the point of reverse discrimination. In the final stages, the supervisor and his assistants have a slight tendency to select candidates most like themselves. Where they are restained from doing so, the business typically is unprofitable, so you can understand that CEOs and top management are reluctant to bring affirmative action to the final selection. This is partly the fault of members of minorities who are quite militant in demanding more than fair treatment after they are hired. Neil |

If you're talking about diversity in recruitment (that is, targeting minority or under-represented groups), there are a number of ways you could go. There's the broad issue of quotas versus minority/EEO recruitment. This has been covered in various regulatory agencies and courts...including (especially as regards minority recruitment in colleges) the Supreme Court. If you want to get specific--to focus on a particular industry or profession--there are many to choose from. Consider journalism and the in-the-news issue of Jayson Blair and his escapades at the New York Times. Defenders of Blair will point out, with some justification, that whites have also been caught fabricating articles. However, because there's been so much press on this case, it's one you might consider. Hope that helps. |
