Thanks for your help. Unfortunatly all of the companies listed need
the car to be regestered in the US. Can we find a US company that will
insure a car already in Ireland. It would be to a US resident with a
US drivers licence. It is for personal not bussiness.
Thanks again Tom.

In order to knowledgeably discuss these new requirements with
insurance professionals, I'll need a few more details.
-- Car's country of origin and purchase/lease
-- Year, make, model
-- Ownership type (lease, purchase, hire, etc.)
Thank you ---l

The insurance broker I spoke with today promised to make some hone
calls and check sources. Part of the difficulty, it seems, is that
cars not manufactured for the American market don't meet U.S.
insurance company standards for insurability. This isn't necessarily a
quality judgement. The U.S. simply has unique safety or emmissions
requirements mandated by federal law, that foreign manufactured
vehicles must meet. These required items are not added to cars sold
elsewhare. It adds up to a vehicle that doesn't (can't) meet U.S.
insurability standards. In the computer age, working around that
obstacle can be quite a process.
The scenario I described today as an example used my stepson (23),
with graduate studies in Ireland, purchasing a local automobile, but
"mom" paying for his insurance. I was told that the easiest way to
accomplish this would be through an individually negotiated
arrangement with an Irish or U.K. insurance agency, with payment via
credit card, which is converted into U.S. dollars as part of the
credit card transaction.
I will post additional information and recommendations as I receive them.

Thank you for your patience.
After additional research and several more conversations with
insurance brokers, the informed consensus is that the best chance of
setting up an arrangement for U.S. payment for a car registered in the
U.K. (Northern Ireland) or Ireland would be to find a (local)
independent auto insurance broker/agent who can individually negotiate
a custom policy arrangement with an Irish or U.K. counterpart, and
arrange exchange payments. There may well be an added fee for such
services.
To locate local insurance brokers, you might try Google's new Local
Search (Beta) using your own zip code and the following search phrase:
independent "auto insurance" agents OR brokers
Local Google

I'm sorry that there doesn't seem to be a simpler way to arrange out
of country auto insurance for your particular circumstance.
