Question ID: 317356
where can a find a searchable database of those who received indian
pensions from the federal government? I am trying to track down
information on my great great grandmother who we believe may have been
a descendant of Seneca Indians. Family lore has it that she was at
least 25 percent Indian which was the qualifier in order to receive
the pension my dad always said she received. I am hoping to be able
to verify what tribe her
ancestors came from.

Many thanks!

There is most likely NOT an online database of the type you are
searching for, but there are other alternatives for searching. Please
provide more specific details about your deceased relative (such as
their name, date of birth and date of death, spouse's name and the
city/state/country where they resided at time of death and names of
any other cities/states they may have lived in during their lifetime.

Once you have a general idea of what city/area to check, that
information is most often located on microfilm or in certain
genealogical publications in a specific area, so we can probably refer
you to a special genealogical society that has access to the
information you want.

thank you so much 4Keith - I am grateful for your assistance. Her
name was Anna Johnston Trax - she resided in Lawrence County, PA -
close to the city of New Castle - I do not have an exact date for her
death, but it would have been in the early 1930s - any advice on what
to do next is much appreciated,
