Hello. The song was originally recorded by the Henry Hall BBC Orchestra (featuring Val Rosing as vocalist) in the 1930s. sources: "In 1906 the American composer J. K. Bratton wrote a musical piece originally titled 'The Teddy Bear Two Step'. It became popular in an 1908 instrumental version renamed 'Teddy Bears' Picnic, performed by the Arthur Pryor Band. The song regained prominence in 1932 when the Irish lyricist Jimmy Kennedy added words and it was recorded by the then popular Henry Hall (& his BBC Dance Orch) featuring Val Rosing (Gilbert Russell) as lead vocalist, which went on to sell a million copies." http://www.encyclopedia4u.com/p/picnic.html Lyrics playground: TEDDY BEARS' PICNIC http://lyricsplayground.com/alpha/songs/t/teddybearspicnic.shtml --------- The original Henry Hall recording is available as Track #6 on a CD called "Vintage Children's Favorites 1926-1950 (ASV)," which may be purchased from Tower Records: http://www.towerrecords.com/product.aspx?pfid=1786713 Or Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00003E456/ search strategy: "teddy bears picnic" lyrics "teddy bears picnic" "jimmy kennedy", bratton "teddy bears picnic" "henry hall" I hope this helps. | |
