I am trying to install an old laser printer - NEC Superscript 870. I want to know if it is compatible with my XP Professional. My computer says the software has not passed Windows Logo testing and could damage my system. Is it and if so do I need to download something. |

Hi bill789, Take heart, you are not alone. Unless you have something else happening there, it is more than likely a driver problem. The bad news is NEC has abandoned the US market and hasn't issued an XP driver for its printers. The good news is there are a couple of drivers that seem to work ok. Option One: Control Panel / Printers / Delete the Nec 870 printer Add Printer / HP / HP LaserJet IIP Option Two: Download Minolta PageWorks 8L (not pro) for Windows NT 4 driver http://www.qms.com/support/current_printers/win_xp.html Link of interest: Forum: Computer Gripes: NEC SuperScript 870: Scroll down to "Windows XP Driver Issues": "...I also found that Minolta PageWorks 8L driver worked fine..." http://www.computergripes.com/NecSuperScript870.html I'm posting this as an answer because I'm confident that it will help. If not, please post a clarification request and I'll be happy to have another look. Thank you and good luck, hummer Google Search Terms Used XP "NEC SuperScript 870" |
