Question ID: 317848
Are there any good books out there (or any other sources of
information) on road racing tactics, aside from "Bike Racing 101"?
Eddie B.'s book is largely training. I read allusions to Lance
Armstrong's being tactically brilliant and his and Julich's coaches
being tacticians, but if you can make a job out of it, why is it so
hard to find a book about it? Even Hinault's book has only a few
pages on tactics. Thanks in advance.

(excerpt of an essay i wrote for my college class)

During a race, just as much of it is physical, as it is mental. This
includes being mentally tough and making each other think they are
mentally tough. A race consists of different groups, near the end of
the race is when they are most distinctive. The leading group is
called the break away; they broke away from the main peloton, or the
main field, and hopefully try to gain such a lead that they cannot be
passed. The next group is known as the chase group, they race more of
a paced race and are determined to chase down the break away and pass
them, usually just before the finish. The different groups will use
each other for drafting off of; many riders will sway back and forth
to prevent this. The winners of races are usually the riders who ride
pace and are never in the lead, until they cross the finish line.
Cycling can be a fun sport, physically demanding and tough. When it
is turned into a competitive sport however, when you take the
necessary strategies and steps to make it competitive, it can be even
more fun. Bike riding is a simple pastime, but can be easily turned
into a high competitive, fast and thrilling sport.
