I am shipping some furniture (2 sofas., 2 arm chairs, 2 ottamans) from South Africa totalling about US $10,000 in value. Do I have to pay customs duty when it gets to the US? How much would it be and what is it based on? |

Dear singaporegirl, According to the United States International Trade Commission's 2004 Tariff Database, there are no duties for furniture of the kind you described if imported from countries the United States have Normal Trade Relations (NTR) with. South Africa belongs to the NTR countries. Source: U.S. International Trade Commission: 2004 Tariff Database http://dataweb.usitc.gov/scripts/tariff2004.asp Hope this answers your question!
