i am looking for info on 'The SHELL System' used in aviation accident
investigations. To help you i have this info:
1. it has been derived from the 'SHEL system' by Elwyn Edwards (1972).
2. if you go to this article
http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/world/newsid_526000/526706.stm
you will find the model but there is no indication of reference.

I need proper references.
thanks & good luck

Hi xerriek,

very interesting article you provided the link to, there. I especially
liked how the author introduced the subject to the reader. I'm not so
sure whether alcohol should be suggested as a general relief, though.
:) But let's now address your question and see what is out there
regarding SHELL (Software, Hardware, Environment, Livewire, Livewire.)

You mentioned that SHELL was based on SHEL by Elwyn Edwards. This
source (http://216.239.37.100/search?q=cache:VXD2iyCc4UQC:web.tiscali.it/flysafe/spring99/articoli/modello.html+%22elwyn+edwards%22+shell&hl=en&ie=UTF-8,
Google's cached version, original site unavailable at this time, you
can have it translated by clicking here:

reveals that
it was KLM's Frank Hawkins who elaborated on Edward's work to develop
it into the SHELL system. Hawkins has written a book on the subject
and I would expect this book to contain many of the references you are
looking for. It is also recommended by several university sources as
basic reading on the subject (e.g. University of New South Wales,
Australia, Dept. of Aviation,

Edwards wrote an introductory chapter on SHELL in this book: E.L.
