I'm trying to fill in some blanks for a book proposal. I need the
exact citation(s) to support the following statements, preferably from
a major news publication.

"Over -- million Americans reported starting a new diet in 2003."
"Approximately --% of dieters opt for a low-fat diet, while -- % turn
to a low-carb diet."
"There were approximately -- million vegetarians in the U.S. in 2003."

Citations from major news publications (NY Times, Wall Street Journal,
CNN.com) OR reputable public interest organizations such as the Food &
Drug Administration, American Health Association, etc. are acceptable.

TIP: You might consider asking for citation sources in seperately
posted questions. A researcher might find citations supporting some
but not all of your statements. Without a complete answer some
researchers will choose not to answer at all - unles of course you
indicate that a partial answer (citations for one or more of the
statements) is acceptable as an answer.

Hope this helps.

A partial answer to the question (defined as 2 of 3 completed
quotations) will be acceptable. Answers that interchange percentages
with numeric values will also be acceptable. E.g.:

"Over 50% of American adults reported starting a new diet in 2003."
"Approximately 15 million dieters opte for a low-fat diet, while 7
million turn to a low-carb diet."
"Approximately 4% of American adults were vegetarians in 2003."
