I sell after market parts to people who rebuild diesel engines 300HP
and up. The diesel engines that I make parts for go into busses,
eighteen wheelers, locomotives, generators, oil field equipment,
marine, and other heavy duty diesel applications.

NOT TO INCLUDE pickup truck engines.

I need a list of engine rebuilders and over haulers for these types of
engines. I also would like some way to sort the list by the volume of
work that each shop does so that I can concentrate my sales efforts
with the larger potential customers. I need contact information (and
back ground information) for each of the shops, Including names, phone
numbers, websites and as much other information as possible for each
customer. My job is to sell to these kinds of customers world wide.

The answer will be acceptable with a listing that includes:
1.	A high percentage of the engine rebuilders including proper contact
information for US companies and a nice list of international
rebuilders (of course as complete as possible) also with proper
contact info. I do recognize that a complete world list may not be
reasonable to ask for.
2.	I would prefer this info to be provided to me in excel format for
easy use for me, I want to download the info, not transcribe it from
the answer page here.

Why are none of the researchers interested in my question?
Should I modify some part of my question to get some one to work on it?
What modifications are necessary to get an answer?

Checked into your question today.

I think this might be the issue right here:

"I also would like some way to sort the list by the volume of
work that each shop does so that I can concentrate my sales efforts
with the larger potential customers."

Obtaining a list with volume data I don't believe will be possible at
this price point. Patronage statistics on companies won't necessarily
be available for companies that aren't publicly held. There are
thousands of diesel engine rebuilders in the states alone. Without
finding a pre-existing list (which is doubtful to contain volume
data), this would have to be manually assembled and formatted into
Excel format (per your other criteria).

jbf777-ga Thank you for your interest in my question. I do not know
that it is even possible to use the spread sheet format through google
answers. If that represents an undue burden on the question I will
forgo that requirement. Furthermore I understand that much of the
information I am interested in may not be available on the web. I only
expect the information which can be found on the web. But for the list
to be most useful to me I will need some way to categorize the
prospects. How about if we sort the information into 4 lists

1)	Big rebuilders
2)	Medium rebuilders
3)	Small rebuilders
4)	Rebuilders of unknown size

Even if category (4) were the largest the answer could still be useful
and worthwhile to me.

Given your knowledge of the market, what would you consider to be a
reasonable number of rebuilders on any lists we can provide?

For instance, I found a list of about 100 shops in one state (Rhode
Island) that do diesel engine rebuilding, but only a handful of these
seemed to work on large truck-sized engines.

If you can give us some guidelines as to your expectations, it would be a help.

Thanks.

The type of engines that I handle parts for is clearly stated in the
original question. I am only interested in the names of business which
are known to rebuild those types of engines. I would rather miss a few
rebuilders than spend a month calling on people rebuilding lawn
mowers. A more complete list will be of greater use than a less
complete list. Guy?s I am a business man; I understand that I could
hire a good internet researcher fulltime for a year and still not find
every possible lead. I already have a business with customers. Let?s
say that some of the leads you develop will already be customers of
mine. Others will not already be customers of mine. It is the latter
group that is of interest to me. I think that if you do a reasonable
amount of work preparing this list I?ll be able to get some good new
customers off the list. That will make me happy.

If the list generated by the researcher had 50 type (1) big rebuilders
and it included links to their websites, and relevant contact
information I can probably make money off it. lets say that a big
rebuilder is someone who seems to be rebuilding more than 100 of the
type of engine we are talking about per year. If a bigger list can be
generated that will be even better.

I am quite surprised that I do not have a researcher working on my
question after two days and two clarification's. If some one would
care to suggest a way to preserve the value of the question to me,
while making it eaiser for you to answer I will enertain suggestions.
Thank you.

The researchers here know from thier experience with many other
questions that finding large lists of very specific types of companies
can be quite a challenging undertaking. Often the information is
simply not available, and if it is available, it exists in proprietary
databases that costs a lot of money to access.

That said, we often manage to create such lists for our customers.
However, when our customers ask for highly-specific criteria for the
lists, it becomes less likely that the list can be compiled through a
reasonable amount of effort, for the price offered.

In your case, you are asking for a list not only of diesel engine
rebuilders, but for those that handle certain types of engines, and
not others, and those that can be sorted by size of their operations,
and not only domestic companies, but from all around the world.

Furthermore, you've asked for -- if not a complete world list -- then
something close to it.

My reason for not delving further into your question is that I stongly
suspect that any list I was able to come up with would not provide a
satisfactory answer for what you're looking for. I imagine my fellow
researchers may feel likewise.

Perhaps one of the researchers will have an inspiration as to how to
answer your question. I hope so. But until then, it may sit
untended.

I wish I could offer a more positive outlook, but this has -- thus far
-- turned out to be a question I haven't found a way of moving forward
on. If you are aware of specialized sources of information we should
be looking into, please let us know about them.

All the best.
