Thanks for your comment and for your earlier clarification. This has
been an interesting project, during which I discovered that medical
doctors in Congress are still rare (there are currently only seven)
and that once they get into politics they tend to become career
politicians. That means that there are very few former federal
legislators who are living, have medical degrees and are not currently
public officeholders or candidates in the 2004 election.
Here is relevant information about the three men I have found who best
meet your criteria, although one of the three is elderly and without
published contact information and another is considering a run for the
House in 2004.
The best match for your expressed needs is:
J.GREGORY("Greg")GANSKY
Dr. Gansky graduated from the University of Iowa Medical School in
1976 and was trained in plastic surgery at Harvard Medical School. He
was a Republican member of the House of Representatives from Iowa from
1994-2003. In 2002 Gansky unsuccessfully ran for the U.S. Senate
against incumbent Tom Harkin. After that loss, he returned to Iowa
and resumed his medical practice.
Contact information for Dr. Gansky is as follows:
Greg Ganske, MD
Suite 312
1301 Penn Avenue
Des Moines, IA 50316
Telephone: (515) 265-4414
E-mail: gregganskemd@qwest.net
Here is a link to Dr. Gansky's Web site, which includes that contact
information as well as biographical data and information about his
medical practice:
Dr. Greg Ganske
http://www.gregganskemd.com/html/location.html
A simple way for you to get other information about Dr. Ganske that
may interest you is to conduct the following simple Google search and
peruse at least the first few pages of the results:
"greg ganske"
A second former Congressman who has an M.D. degree, has left politics
and is still living is:
JAMES ROY ROWLAND
J. Roy Roland was born in 1926. He received his M.D. degree from the
Medical College of Georgia in 1952. He was a Democratic member of the
House of Representatives from Georgia 1983-1995, when he retired and
returned to Dublin Georgia.
Here are representative Web sites that will give you a feel for Dr.
Rowland and his activities and honors after leaving Congress:

Dublin, GA (10/97)

If for your purposes you want more information about Dr. Rowland's
Congressional career, a good place to start would be to peruse the top
results of this simple Google search:
"j OR james roy roland"
As I noted in my comment last evening, Google researchers are not
allowed to provide personal information about private individuals
(such as addresses and phone numbers), but Dr. Rowland is obviously a
prominent citizen of Dublin, GA. Here are links to the Web sites of
the city of Dublin and its Chamber of Commerce, which contain contact
information for the local government and the Chamber, either of which
might be able to help you locate him:

Here is information on a third former Congressman, who might become a
prospect for your proposal if he decides not to run for Congress in
2004:
JOHN COOKSEY
John Cooksey was a Republican member of the House of Representatives
from 1996 to 2002, when he resigned to pursue his losing effort to win
a U.S. Senate seat. He received a medical degree from the LSU School
of Medicine in 1966 and practices ophthalmology in Monroe, Louisiana.
Cooksey has recently established an "exploratory committee" to pursue
the possibility of running again for the House seat he left in 2000,
and it is reported that he intends to make up his mind by the first
week in April:

Contact information for Dr. Cooksey is included on the Web site that
advertises both his ophthalmology practice and his apparent specialty
in Botox treatments. Here is that contact information followed by a
link to that Web page:

Additional Information:
One of the interesting things I discovered during this research that
there had been no medical doctors in the U.S. Senate since 1928 until
Dr. Frist joined the club in 1994:

By the time I had the benefit of your helpful clarification, I had
already uncovered information about two other former Congressmen who
initially appeared to meet your criteria. Rather than waste that
information, I am posting it here in case it ultimately might be of
some use to you. Here is basic information about those two men:
ERNEST LEE FLETCHER

Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1998-2003

TOM COBURN
Tom Coburn, a Republican from Oklahoma, served in the House of
Representatives from 1995-2001. He graduated from the University of
Oklahoma Medical School in 1983 and has been a practicing family
physician and obstetrician in Muskogee, AL.
Coburn has recently announced that he is entering the Oklahoma
Republican primary for the seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Don
Nickles.
Coburn is also currently the Chairman of the President's Advisory
Council on HIV and AIDS. His contact information as posted on the Web
site of the Council is as follows:

Search Strategy:
This project was challenging because the information you wanted is
apparently not located in one, or in a few, online sources. This
meant that a large number of Google searches were needed to ferret out
the information from many sources and to provide reasonable assurance
that the search had been thorough. Here are just a couple of
representative examples of those searches:
physician "served in the us house of representatives"
physician "elected to the" "house of representatives" 1988 OR 1990 OR
1992 [along with similar searches covering other years]
://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=+%22physician%22+%22elected+to+the%22+%22house+of+representatives%22++1988+OR+1990+OR+1992+&btnG=Google+Search
This is one of a series of searches I used to try to determine whether
a comprehensive list exists online of physicians in Congress in modern
times. Unfortunate no results were returned:
coburn rowland ganske cooksey doctors OR physicians
://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=coburn+rowland+ganske+cooksey+doctors+OR+physicians
Based on your helpful clarification and comment, I am confident that
this information will serve your immediate needs. If any of the above
is unclear, please ask for clarification before rating this answer.
