While reading an answer to a question I posted, a red rimmed warning
dialog box appeared that said it detected possible spying on my
computer. It allowed me to download some kind of spyware for free and
didn't allow me to exit the dialog box any other way. How can I know
if this is real or just advertising? |

What was the program you downloaded? Can you tell us EXACTLY where you
saw this pop-up?

Dear Buscuit,
Was the Google Answers window, the only one open (or did you close
just before that a window)? If there was another window just before or
during the reading, which one was it?

The box popped up while I was reviewing an answer to my last question.
The only other program that was open was my e-mail.
I had no choice except to say download now, however this took me to a
home page which I simply closed.
Now that I notice, I see you sponsor SpyWare Removal. This was
probably one of your affiliates, yes?

Actually, if there was a pop-up - not that you clicked on a link on
this page - it cannot be directly from Google - as Google sites do not
have pop-ups. This is either from your email, that was also open,
because you clicked a link without noticing, or other factors. Google
itself is pop-up free zone.
