Could you be thinking about "Con Man"?
This film played the film festival circuit a couple years ago and
received positive critical notice. However, the impersonator's scam
didn't involve being a prince, but rather a "Princeton" student.
Could this be what you want?

Just got some more info... He was mentioned in an article in Vanity
Fair in the last few months. This guy was in Europe and he is
promoting the movie which is fairly upbeat from what I can gather.

Could it be 'AKA'?

'AKA' is a film about a British teen who passed himself off as an aristocrat.

It played the "independent film" circuit in the U.S. in December 2003.
Here is a review from The Hollywood Reporter.

Hi.

Great!

I'm glad to hear that the film is "AKA," so I'll post this as the
"official" answer.

Again, here's the Hollywood Reporter review:

And here's AKA's official web site:

The only example that comes to mind is Six Degrees of Separation,
starring Will Smith, based on the play about David Hampton, who
pretended to be Sidney Poitier's son.

And, of course, Will Smith has been the Fresh Prince since his days in
Philadelphia.
