The answering machine indicates that Bumper's Magical Workshop makes
"magic supplies for entertainers worldwide."

Hi, onetrilliondollars--just curious: is that "paper tears" as in
"teers" (salty drops from your eyes) or "tares" (rips)? In context
and even looking at the links, it seems to me that one makes about as
much sense as the other.

Thanks,
Apteryx

Howdy apteryx-ga,

Not the Questioner, but someone who has studied illusions.

It is tears, as in rips. These type of illusions are sometimes
called "tear and restore" or "torn and restore" because that is
the gist of the illusion.

The illusionist takes a newspaper, (or paper hat, in the Bumper's
version) tears it up, then restores it.

Looking Forward, denco-ga - Google Answers Researcher
