I'm looking for Nestle "Alpine White" chocolate bars. They were
originally produced by Nestle in the 80's, but I heard they would be
re-introduced in Mexico, then possibly in the US>

I would like to purchase a few dozen if possible, but I can;t find if
anyone still has some.

thanks

Howdy lasivian-ga,

Appreciate you taking this as an Answer.

I called Nestlé at their information phonre number and they
had not heard of any plans to offer their Alpine White candy
bars again.

As pinkfreud-ga rightly pointed out, 20 year white chocolate
(even though white chocolate doesn't contain cocoa liquor)
would not be very tasty.

Some excerpts from the Nestlé web site's frequently asked
questions (FAQ) page:
http://www.nestleusa.com/consumerSite/faq/faq.asp?subCatID=2001518121921651311668

"No, white chocolate does not contain any caffeine because
it does not contain cocoa liquor, where caffeine is found."
...
Unfortunately, freezing or refrigerating any type of chocolate
does not make them stay fresher longer. Chocolate should always
be stored between 60-70 degrees."

Not the same as the Alpine White, which had almonds in it, but
here is where to get Nestlé Giant Crunch White candy bars.
http://www.candydirect.com/html/eng/2638-AA.html

"Nestle White Giant 4.5 oz.
Giant white chocolate bar from Nestle
Our Price: $ 24.50
Count: 12"

You could always try making your own with Nestlé Toll House
Premier White Morsels.
http://www.verybestbaking.com/products/tollhouse/morsels.asp

"These rich and delicious creamy vanillin-flavored baking
pieces are perfect for creating a variety of mouth-watering
recipes."

There are also Baker's brand Premium White Chocolate Baking
Squares, if you were thinking of making your own.
http://www.kraftfoods.com/bakerschocolate/bakers_family.html

"BAKER'S Squares are the top-selling baking squares nationwide."

You should be able to get Baker's baking squares at most grocery
stores, as well as any Walmart that carries food products.

If you need any clarification, feel free to ask.

Search strategy:

Went to the Nestlé web site contact page, and then called them.
http://www.nestleusa.com/customerService/contact_us.asp

Also did some searches on white chocolate for the additional
material.

Howdy lasivian-ga,

Nestlé information at 800-225-2270 indicates that they haven't heard
of them coming back out with the Alpine White bars.

Even if you could find a leftover hoard of this candy, you should keep
in mind that chocolate has a limited shelf-life. The cocoa butter goes
bad after a while, and old chocolate bars can be really yucky.

Welp, bummer on both counts :)

I figured maybe it would last longer if frozen or something ;)

(Duh on me, didn't even think to call nestle)

You guys can close this one out as answered.

There are probably a few American or foreign companies that specialize
in stocking familiar American favorite food items that MIGHT have this
for you but it might be hard to track one down. Doesn't Nestle now
have other white chocolate products that would give you a similar
taste to what you were looking for?

I'll be looking for a similar taste now, but I figured i'd try and see
if the original was out there first, thanks :)
