Dear fatman619-ga; Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to answer your interesting question. I called the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services and posed your question to them. I was advised that the only way to obtain a California Guard Card is to contact a Security Guard training company in your area (listed in the Yellow Pages under ?Security and Private Patrol?). Your license and registration card can only be obtained through one of these agencies and the Bureau itself does not license private individuals. For a list of certified training facilities nearest your location you can also call, (800) 952-5210 or use this California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services search engine: http://www2.dca.ca.gov/pls/wllpub/wllqryna$lcev2.startup?p_qte_code=G&p_qte_pgm_code=2420 If you are interested, here are some relevant documents: TRAINING SYLLABUS http://www.dca.ca.gov/bsis/syllabus.htm SECURITY GUARD APPLICATION http://www.dca.ca.gov/bsis/forms/app_secg.pdf LICENSE APPLICATION http://www.dca.ca.gov/bsis/forms/licensingapp.pdf FEE SCHEDULES http://www.dca.ca.gov/bsis/fees_individual.pdf REQUIREMENTS http://www.dca.ca.gov/bsis/bsisgard.htm Other document can be found here: http://www.dca.ca.gov/bsis/ppo.htm I hope you find that my research exceeds your expectations. Actually, you would usually obtain your California Guard Card through the company you want to work for. An administrator at the company would proctor the "Powers To Arrest" exam which consists of multiple choice questions about a Security Officers responsibilities and authority. The test is extremely simple and almost insulting. Even though you must get 100% on the exam to pass, if you miss a question, you can simple re-do the qestions you miss until you get it right. The test is a joke, but it is the way BSIS can say they require something other than a pulse to work as a Security Officer in California. |

A good place to get your guard card and other certificates in california is from STAT-training.net http://www.stat-training.net I was able to obtain my guard card, baton permit, chemical wheapons license, and firearms permit all within 1 month. I took the classes consecutively the first week and then drove to sacramento to submit my forms. I recieved my licenses in the mail 1 and 2 weeks later. (It takes longer for the firearms permit) I also have a clean record and served in the armed forces so my background check was relevantly quick. |
