The following schools are using technology in their psychology programs:
University of Minnesota

Audio and video streaming were incorporated into three of the initial
five classes. All of the audio streaming was linked from existing
web-based sources. Video streaming was produced in the VIDL by
encoding edited video segments of faculty introducing each of the
fifteen units in the courses. In our efforts to create this
comprehensive online major for undergraduates, we recognize the need
for additional technological enhancements. There are many aspects of
psychology which are difficult to translate into an online format
without visual effects. In many of our courses we have hands on
experiences which could be incorporated into an online environment
utilizing streaming capabilities. These would include such
experiential components as group dynamics, counseling skills
demonstrations, experiments in psychology, interviews with children,
expressive therapy demonstrations, meditation and Yoga, as well as
lectures by our faculty and guests from the community.

The Psychology Department has excellent teaching facilities. Courses
are conducted in several state of the art electronic classrooms
(e-classrooms) equipped with CD/DVD/VHS players, laptop computers, and
dedicated desktop computers with high-speed internet connections. A
dedicated laboratory features 20 computers that face an
instructor-controlled projection system, allowing students to complete
computer-based exercises and demonstrations during
lecture/discussions. Another computer laboratory contains twelve
computers, each in separate cubicles so that students may complete
exercises and research projects at their own pace. Additionally,
several seminar rooms are available to facilitate small group
discussions.

When the dust settles sometime next quarter, the psychology department
will have added two new labs to expand research and student learning
opportunities. A second-floor computer lab and a first-floor pigeon
lab will complement several other designated laboratories in the
psychology department. The department already includes a teaching
laboratory, a behavioral neuroscience lab set up for research with
rats, a health psychology laboratory filled with a variety of
high-tech equipment, and some clinical observation laboratory rooms
with one-way windows and state-of-the-art video equipment. In
addition, the department has several laboratory rooms frequently used
for studies in social psychology, cognitive psychology, developmental
psychology, motivation and other subfields of the discipline.

We teach in "smart" classrooms, capable of delivering multimedia
instruction. We have a computer lab that supports our courses and
individual student projects. We also have an experimental psychology
lab with support facilities. We share with other departments in the
college a clinic located on the first floor. The clinic is
well-supported and has a group counseling room, and six individual
client rooms, with remote video-taping and audio communication
capabilities.

Psychology--Students have the resources of a top-notch engineering and
technical university at their fingertips, and are encouraged to take a
broad spectrum of technological electives to complement their
humanities focus. The
Technical and Professional Communications Computer Lab is reserved for
students in the department, and includes Macintosh computers, color
printers, scanners and software for graphic design and Web page
authorship. Finally, the entire campus is wireless, with a number of
high-tech computer labs.

A new human psychophysiological laboratory is designed specifically
for undergraduates. The lab is the only one of its kind in the Pacific
Northwest and provides high-tech monitoring equipment. ?The
undergraduate research initiative is intended to create more
opportunities for in-depth experience and more material support to
student researchers,? says Professor John Hinson. Using the new
technology, students will execute the research projects that they
initiate. ?For example,? Hinson says, ?a student could investigate
evoked potential markers of cognition and behavior.? The evoked
potential is averaged electrical activity derived from the
electroncephalogram (EEG) that is taken from various regions of the
brain. ?Those evoked potentials will tell us which regions of the
brain are involved in important cognitive processes, such as risky
decision making, examples of which would include the choice to drink
to excess or the decision to use illegal drugs.?

[from http://www.wiu.edu/employment/candidates/dean_as/klein.shtml]:
The program has grown from 9 to 17 full-time faculty and from 1 to 7
women faculty. The head of the department has increased office space
for the psychology department and received $750,000 for renovation of
the psychology building. They now have a state-of-the-art, high tech
classroom, as well as two computer labs. He has been instrumental in
increasing the use of technology in classroom instruction. The
psychology faculty have received over $2,000,000 in external funding
this academic year and over $13,000,000 during Dr. Klein's term as
department chair.

Washington State University?s new human psycho-physiological
laboratory will soon allow undergraduates to design and conduct their
own research projects. The lab, the only one of its kind in the
Pacific Northwest, provides high-tech monitoring equipment, designed
specifically for undergraduate use. While the technology is legitimate
for scientific research, the training necessary to operate the
equipment makes it more suited to beginning researchers.
Carlton University
http://magazine.carleton.ca/2003_Fall/1073.htm
Carleton has now slipped into the video stream. After a successful
pilot, the university is offering five courses this fall for replay
over the Internet. Courses available online this fall include
chemistry 1000 and psychology 1000, one of Carleton?s largest classes,
offered to approximately 1,000 student registrants. The only
requirements to play the courses are high-speed Internet access, which
is available to students at a special rate through the university, and
QuickTime, a free downloadable video software package. The innovative
project was made possible through a unique partnership with Nortel
Networks, says Lyons. The Ottawa-based telecommunications giant
donated necessary bandwidth and expertise to make the project happen.
University of Texas at Arlington

The department has approximately 18,000 total square feet of research
space; 7,000 square feet for human subject research and 11,000 square
feet for animal research. Resources available include IBM PCs with
mainframe and internet access, multi-media presentation equipment,
video and audio recording equipment, small animal aversive and
appetitive conditioning chambers, small animal video digitizing
equipment, physiological apparatus for brain stimulation and lesion
studies, hormone and immune assays, etc. Another valuable resource is
the human subject pool, provided by a research participation
requirement in introductory psychology classes. This pool provides
some 4,000 subject hours annually.

The Health Psychology Area incorporates a student thesis area and
fully multimedia equipped seminar room into the research areas.
Included in this area are dedicated laboratories for testing pain
perception, personality traits, and neuropsychology examinations.
U of Denver

The two main classrooms in the department are smart-to-the-seat,
allowing not only the professor, but also each student, to have power
and internet access for their laptops. These smart classrooms permit
dynamic, hands-on learning and demonstrations during class time. All
in all, the wide range of available facilities and the congenial
interpersonal atmosphere provide an excellent environment for research
and learning.
Dartmouth

The new four-story, 100,000- square-foot building houses faculty
offices and research laboratories in addition to state-of-the-art
teaching laboratories and "smart" classrooms equipped with computers
and audio-visual capabilities. The Filene Lecture Hall in the new
facility will accommodate 225 students. Dartmouth's Center for
Cognitive Neuroscience, which explores the neural basis for mental
processes such as learning, memory and sensory perception, will occupy
the fourth floor.
Illinois State

We have laboratory space/observation rooms in DeGarmo Hall (Psychology
Department) that are equipped with state-of-the art high speed
computers, audio-video recording equipment, and other hardware and
software that can used to facilitate data collection, coding, and
entry.
St. Johns Unversity

We now have a brand new facility on the ground floor of Bent Hall.
There are four classrooms equipped with one-way mirrors and
state-of-the-art video equipment, 12 treatment rooms, supervisor's
offices and a computerized student work and research area. With this
kind of available space almost 120 students work at the center and see
about 200 clients each week!
