Dear Jojo, Hello! Thank you for your inquiry! It seems like being near a Veterans Medical Center would be a priority to you, thats why I chose these 6 cities as opposed to many other locations in the U.S. that have Veterans Clinics (Clinics dont have the full hospital facilities that the Medical Centers do). Unfortunately, because Veterans Medical Centers are not located in especially rural areas, it might be hard to have a truly country atmosphere. However, I was able to locate 6 cities where there are Veterans Medical Centers, country land nearby yet decent public transportation, low humidity, either public pools or gyms/YMCAs with pools, and real estate under $100k. 1. Sacramento, California Sacramento VA Medical Center 10535 Hospital Way Sacramento, CA 95655 (916) 366-5366 2. Boise, Idaho Boise VA Medical Center 500 West Fort Street Boise, ID 83702 (208) 422-1000 3. Grand Junction, Colorado Grand Junction VA Medical Center 2121 North Avenue Grand Junction, CO 81501 (970) 242-0731 4. Cheyenne, Wyoming Cheyenne VA Medical/Regional Office Center 2360 E. Pershing Blvd. Cheyenne, WY 82001 (307)778-7550 5. Phoenix, Arizona Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center 650 E. Indian School Road Phoenix, AZ 85012 (602) 277-5551 6. Hot Springs, South Dakota The VA Black Hills Health Care System 500 North 5th Street Hot Springs, SD 57747 605-745-2000 Helpful websites: Department of Veterans Affairs http://www.va.gov/ Sacramento http://www.sacramento.com/ City of Sacramento http://www.cityofsacramento.org/ Boise http://www.ci.boise.id.us/ Grand Junction http://www.gjchamber.org/ Cheyenne http://www.cheyennecity.org/ Phoenix http://www.ci.phoenix.az.us/ Hot Springs http://www.hotsprings-sd.com/ Hot Springs Newspaper http://www.hotspringsstar.com/index.php3 Search terms used: Veterans hospital Real estate Weather humidity pools Thank You and Good Luck! Why not come to Australia. Your veterens benefits are transferable in some cases and you could purchase a house in a climate something similar to Southern California not far from a veterens hospital. Our dollar which was greater than your by double 30 years ago and equal too 10 years ago is now half yours at just over 50 cents. On this basis you could buy a really excellent house in say Dunnolly in the state of Victoria for around US$25,000 which would be no more than 35 minutes from such a hospital required in large city of Bendigo,( where the Californian gold diggers settled in 1851 in fact and whose descendants are still there). Dunnolly would be only 1.66 hours away from second largest city in Australia being Melbourne with near 4,000,000 people and supposedly the worlds largest casino. I in fact live across the street from this massive monument to the gambling dollar. Your mate ex -president Clinton loves the city and the casino both and was here just a few weeks back as you may have known. What say you to this proposal??????????? john.birkin@auspost.com.au |

I'm from Grand Junction, Colorado, and would recommend there as a great location :).... it does have a country atmosphere, even within 10 miles of the Veterans Hospital (which is located right next to the municipal golf course, 9 holes), and is a popular area for retirement. It is a good compromise between conveniences and small town feel, and the community is nice. It's never humid. The area is beautiful, with red rock canyons on the west, and pine covered mountains to the east, and hiking, biking, skiing, rafting, etc.. available nearby. It as a mall and pleasant downtown area, but like I said, rural atmosphere on the fringes. Downsides: cold in the winter, can get very hot in the summer. Because more people are moving there, traffic can actually be a problem sometimes in the city proper. Let me know if you have any questions. Or perhaps you've already moved! :) |
