I have a largish three story house and I have setup 802.11b network with the hub in the middle story. However I find several dead spots in the house and they are not alwasys relatd to the distance (walls etc may be responsible) How best can I cover these dead spots. At some spots I don't get any signals and other spots it is very intermittant. I have seen a 802.11 booster costing $200 but there has to be a better and cheaper way. I looked for repeaters but the specs didn't make any sense to me. Would the high gain antenna help? I have gotten mixed response to that. My budget is max of $100. Is it possible to daisy chain two wireless routers? If it matters, I have a Uniden hub and dsl line. (I had a DLink before this with a worse problem) I don't want to wire anything; that defeats the whole purpose. I have seen some 'do it yourself kits" but I am not a "do it your self" kind of guy. |

raj4la-ga: The D-Link 900AP+ can be configured as a 802.11b repeater relatively easily: http://www.z-buy.com/product.asp?item=ET-DLDWL900 It will pick up the signal from your current wireless access point, and rebroadcast it to your clients, and vice versa. It's basically a matter of configuring the 900AP+ to recognize your current WAP's MAC address, then it will latch onto it and repeat the signal to help fill in the dark spots in your home (assuming you are able to place it strategically to accomplish this). Current cost will be <$60 for the unit, shipping and tax costs extra. Regards, aht-ga Google Answers Researcher |
