I would like to purchase a complete gas welder kit for
auto/garage/hobby use, as a gift. What components do I need? I would
like to make an educated decision but I have no background what so
ever with welding. Ebay has a lot of options but many of them are
pieces of kits which makes it difficult for me to know what they are
missing. Also, what are some trustworthy brands and what should I
expect cost wise? I appreciate your assistance. |

Howdy sb3402-ga,
What type of material (aluminum, sheet steel, steel, etc.) and how thick
(1/8" or 1/4", etc.) is the material is to be welded? Is there access to
a 220 volt plug, or is just a "standard" 110 volts available.
The answers to the above questions will help determine the best type of
welder, possibly including gasless ones, for you to purchase. Also, any
type of budget would help as well. Thanks!
Looking Forward, denco-ga - Google Answers Researcher

Apologies; that should have read "that is to be welded" above.

Thanks for your response. I do not have access to 220 volt power,
only 110. The welder would be used for steel, probably up to 3/8".
My budget is around $500 but I would be willing to look at something
more if it would make a big difference in the quality. As I
mentioned, the welder would be used for hobby use such as making a
roof rack for the car etc. Additionally, I am not sure if an arc
welder or a gas welder would be better. I appreciate your assistance.

There was a comment posted to my question which I can no longer
access. Does anyone know how I can regain access to this very useful
response? I viewed it briefly at 12:10 today, March 30, 2004, but did
not have time to thoroughly review it. Thank you.
