Need March, 1933 radio broadcast from NBC Los Angeles affiliate. In March of 1933 there was a promotional radio broadcast for the movie King Kong. It featured the producer Merian C. Cooper and the animator Willis O'Brien. The spot aired on the NBC affiliate in Los Angeles and was heard in Santa Barbara, among other locations. I need to get a copy of this recording for a documentary I am making about King Kong. I checked with some "old time radio" aficionados on the Internet but they never heard of it. In 1933 it was fairly unusual to make permanent recordings of live broadcasts. This was before the days or wire recordings so they had to make lacquer discs which were fragile. If there is any possibility that this recording exists, I need it asap. I already have a transcription so it {must be the actual audio}. Thank you! |

The date I think was Feb 10, 1933: "On February 10th, 1933, Willis O'Brien participated in a half-hour promotional radio broadcast on the NBC network. "Speaking for myself," the animator said, "King Kong represents the goal of more than 20 years. For that long a time I have delved into bygone periods, studied the life of animals long before the descent of man, preparing myself for the day when someone would dare to reproduce on the screen the giant beasts that once ruled the world. Without knowing it, I was waiting for King Kong -- I feel it has been worth the long years of research." Indeed it was. Standing tall atop his mountain aerie, King Kong sets astride the very pinnacle of Fantastic Cinema." http://www.bmonster.com/horror32.html Also given that this may be very difficult to find if not impossible you may want to consider raising the price which will generate more interest in tracking this down. Just a thought. Bowler-g |
