Hello again frazier-ga:

Since 2001, CSFB's advertising agency has been Euro RSCG, a division of Havas.

I think the single best, easiest person for you to contact at Euro's
RSCG's New York office is:

Ms. Peggy Nahmany
Global Communications Director at RSCG
Phone: 212-886-2000

(The above information on Ms. Nahmany is from Havas's site:
At that page, in the menu box near the top, select: "Euro RSCG
Worldwide New York," to bring up a new page listing officers at
Havas's Euro RSCG World Headquarters in New York.)

She should be able to direct you to the person(s) at RSCG who handle CSFB.

Please bear in mind that this is so complicated because CSFB is a
global company with many different interests and divisions. There may
be several people at RSCG dealing with advertising/PR needs for
different divisions of CSFB -- so, there likely isn't just one contact

General contact information for Euro RSCG's New York office is:

350 Hudson Street
New York, NY 10014
Telephone: +1 212-886-2000
Fax: +1 212-886-2016

Finding a more precise contact person is nearly impossible. Here's
some of what I found:

According to this August 31, 2001 press release from CSFB, regarding
the launch of the CSFB Direct campaign:
"The campaign was created with New York-based Messner Vetere Berger
McNamee Schmetterer/Euro RSCG (MVBMS), the agency of record for
CSFBdirect?. . . . The creative theme for the integrated campaign
(including TV, print, and radio), which was overseen by MVBMS Managing
Directors and Creative Partners Joe O'Neill and Marcus Kemp . . ."

However, according to the March 18, 2003, edition of Ad Week, O'Neill
has left MVBMS/RSCG:
Mr. Kemp isn't listed at MVBMS either, so, presumably, he too has left
that company.

Should you need to contact MVBMS anyway (RSCG may refer you back to
them), here is the site for MVMBS Euro RSCG Partners :

Their contact information is:

Euro RSCG MVBMS Partners
350 Hudson Street
New York, NY 10014
Telephone: 1-212-886-4100

Here is their management team:

I went through the biographies there, but no one is specifically
linked to CSFB, though Don Middleberg, head of PR, seems to be the
person to contact there, if you have to cold call this office.

I do know that Euro RSCG still represents CSFB, thanks to this
November 2003 press release regarding CSFB's "Healthcare Conference" :
and Wendy Lau was the Media contact at RSCG -- at least for that event
-- for CSFB.
Her office number is 212 845-4272

According to another (un-related) press release at:
Ms. Lau's office e-mail address is:

But it should be noted that Ms. Lau is with the NRP division of RSCG,
and that division represents pharmaceutical companies and events, such
as the healthcare conference -- noted above -- that she repped on
behalf of CSFB. She seems to be their contact person for
pharmaceutical and health-related divisions and research.

Searching for RSCG at CSFB's site
brought up this July 2003 press release:
which notes Estelle Griffe of Euro RSCG's Paris office as a contact.

So, for the sake of simplicity, I again suggest you contact Ms.
Nahmany, who may well give you more than one contact name and phone

I realize this isn't as easy as one name, one contact, but large
corporations, like CSFB, often work with several ad agencies; or, as
in this case, several different representatives and departments from
one agency.

I am going to be contacting CSFB on Monday regarding your other,
related question at:
So, I will ask them to verify Euro RSCG as CSFB's advertising/PR firm.

Search Strings:
"Credit Suisse" AND "advertising agency"
MVBMS +Kemp +O'Neill
RSCG New York

I know it might be hard but I cannot strees enough that I really need
the contact people at both the firms. The reason I was willing to pay
alot for this question was because I new it was not an easy question
to get answered.

As far as I know, RSCG handles advertising and public relations for
ALL divisions of CSFB, in all CSFB locales, including the U.S.

I will e-mail or telephone RSCG in New York on Monday to inquire. (I
will also ask CSFB when I e-mail them Monday morning if CSFB uses any
other advertising agencies, in addition to RSCG.)

I am quite sure there is more than one person at RSCG who handles
CSFB's ad and PR needs in the U.S. In fact, I'll bet there's about a
dozen people from RSCG repping various U.S. divisions and interests at

I'm a reporter and I sometimes cover Wall Street news. I can tell you
that things get VERY complex with a corporation as enormous and
diverse as CSFB.

I will update you ASAP(!) (on both questions)when RSCG and CSFB
respond to my inquiries.

As I just noted in my clarification to your other question regarding
CSFB, my further research has confirmed that Peggy Nahmany, who is
Global Communications Director at RSCG, is indeed the best person for
you to contact regarding CSFB's advertising and marketing campaigns.

Her contact info again is:

Peggy Nahmany
Global Communications Director at RSCG
Phone: 212-886-2000

You can also contact Kendra Percy at RSCG's New York office. Her
number is 212-886-5002.

It is likely that Ms. Percy or Ms. Nahmany will direct you to some
additional affiliated agencies and personnel, such as MVBMS. (I gave
you their contact information in my answer.)

The most inportant thinG FOR ME IS i REALLY NEED TO KNOW WHO ARE THE

Clarification of Answer by nancylynn-ga on 28 Mar 2004 13:21 PST
The person who would be most in charge of dealing with RSCG (the
advertising firm) is Beat Buchmann, marketing director for CSFB.

I failed to find contact information for him/her. (Buchmann could well
be in a Switzerland office.) The best thing for you to do is to

Jeanmarie McFadden:

Cristina Von Bargen: E-mail:

both of whom are spokespersons for CSFB in New York City.

Ask them which CSFB executive is most responsible for dealing with
RSCG. They should be able to give you an e-mail address for Buchmann.
Also ask them who is head of Corporate Communications and if that
person is also responsible for dealing with RSCG. They should be able
to put you in touch with that person at the Communications office.

By e-mailing Ms. Von Bargen and/or Ms. McFadden (or calling them;
their phone numbers are listed above), they should be able to give you
the most pertinent names and phone numbers, so that you can avoid
phone hold-and-transfer hell.

Establishing a dialogue with these ladies may also help answer any
other of your questions related to your question:
and they should be able to give you any contact names and numbers I
couldn't find via a Web search.

Those may well be names and phone numbers that aren't on any of CSFB's
Web sites (explaining why I couldn't find them). If these are names
and numbers that CSFB -- for whatever reason(s) -- doesn't want listed
at its Web sites, that's another good reason for you to e-mail Von
Bargen and McFadden yourself.

Sorry, I forgot to re-emphasize that in addition to contacting CSFB's
two spokespersons, you should also e-mail (
Ms. Nahmany or Ms. Percy at RSCG, whose phone numbers I gave you in an
earlier clarification. They can tell you which representatives from
RSCG handle which interests for CSFB.

Just for one example, as I mentioned in my original answer, Wendy Lau
of RSCG handles healthcare-related interests for CSFB, such as the
BioMed symposium that I'd noted in my answer, which was sponsored by

Lau's contact information is 212 845-4272, e-mail:

It's a safe bet that RSCG will tell you they have a dozen (maybe even
more) representatives who each handle different CSFB divisions and
interests. Once you have e-mail addresses for those reps, they can
then tell you which CSFB executives and directors -- respectively --
they each deal with most.

I just found the contact information for CSFB's marketing director Beat Buchmann!

I am SO sorry -- it was at the very bottom of the press release I'd
cited for you earlier:
(You have to take care that you have scrolled the whole way down that;
it's tricky.)

Buchmann's office phone number is 41 1 333 3126, which is a Swiss phone number.

The only e-mail address I can find for Credit Suisse Group's Swiss
offices is:

That e-mail address is associated with Credit Suisse's Financial
Center in Zurich. Still the recipient of an e-mail to that address
should be able to provide you with an e-mail address for Buchmann.

I still can't find a *Director* of Corporate Communications; simply
that department's address and phone number:

Corporate Communications Americas
Eleven Madison Avenue
New York, NY 10010-3629

Why Credit Suisse makes it so difficult to find its communications and
marketing directors is beyond me. Also, I have done numerous searches
for a marketing director at CSFB in New York City and have come up
empty, time and time again. So, it looks like Buchmann is indeed in
charge of marketing for all of Credit Suisse.

When you email CSFB can you ask who there marketing person is in New
York. Thanks for all the help I really do appreciate it.

Clarification of Answer by nancylynn-ga on 30 Mar 2004 12:51 PST

I received a reply from Euro RSCG's NYC office -- and they told me
they DON'T represent CSFB! (As far as I know, they still represent
Credit Suisse Group, but not the CSFB division.) Yikes.

But never fear, my esteemed coworker, jbf777-ga, has just come to our rescue!

Credit Suisse First Boston's ad agency is Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners:

That site is under construction, but if you click on "Client List,"
you'll see CSFB listed there.

Contact information for the agency is:
160 Varick Street, 4th Floor
New York, NY 10013
Telephone: 212-633-0080
Fax: 212-463-8643

I e-mailed them, but got an automatic reply from a Karen Ciola who
will be out of the office until Friday. No matter: jbf777-ga told me
the person you really need to contact at CSFB regarding promotional
and advertising matters is Matthew Hickerson. His phone number is

Hickerson, in turn, can tell you which person at Kirshenbaum is most
responsible for handling the CSFB account, and then you can call or
e-mail them.

I now know how I became confused: Look at this press release:
"Euro RSCG Wnek Gosper in London has won the US$ 20MM Credit Suisse
Group global branding brief after a head to head pitch against US
Agency Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners. The two agencies were short listed
after a primary pitch, which included another two Swiss agencies.

Credit Suisse Group is one of the world's top Global Financial
Services companies composed of 4 business units* including Credit
Suisse First Boston [See: CSFB is lumped in there, just as in some
other references I saw re: RSCG],* Credit Suisse Private Banking,
Credit Suisse Asset Management and Credit Suisse Financial Services."

Frankly, Credit Suisse is so huge, I'm not sure how anyone there can
keep track of anything!

I'm still waiting to hear back from CSFB regarding your other
questions about divisions and managers in the NYC office. I will post
that information for you, as soon as I get a reply.

Since their media relations office is likely swamped and my request
may well be near the bottom of the pile, you might want to consider
ordering a prospectus from CSFB, which should contain names of all
managing directors of all divisions.

At this page:
Scroll down to see prospectus ordering information and fax number:
212-325-8057. You can also correspond with CSFB via that fax number
re: information listed in the prospectus.

Again, I can't thank my colleague jbf777-ga enough for saving the day.

I would really appreciate if you could find out for me who the
contacts are at the advertising agency for CSFB.

Clarification of Answer by nancylynn-ga on 31 Mar 2004 10:04 PST
When I e-mailed Kirshenbaum yesterday I got an auto reply "back in the
office on Friday." That doesn't mean they will reply on Friday! (There
could be quite a few messages stacked up by then.) They can't release
that information to me anyway until they clear it with CSFB.

If you don't want to wait until then, Matthew Hickerson at CSFB is
very willing to talk to you about advertising, and he can tell you who
at Kirshenbaum handles CSFB. Hickerson's phone number is

Please understand that I am NOT reimbursed for my expenses, and it
looks as if I'm going to have to call into CSFB re: your other
question as I still haven't received a reply from them.

Another good reason for you to call Hickerson is that CSFB may not
want every bit of this information posted at this site. I don't know
about this case, but that is always a possibility.

It also slows things down considerably when a researcher has to act as
a conduit relaying informationm back and forth between parties. So, it
would be better if you called Hickerson. I will call into CSFB
regarding your other question if I don't get an e-mail reply from them
by the end of this week.

Clarification of Answer by nancylynn-ga on 31 Mar 2004 10:55 PST
In case you missed it in all the verbiage (we've compiled quite a bit
of data here & it's gotten confusing!):

I had given you the contact name earlier. (You might have missed it.)
Karen Ciola is the contact person at Kirshenbaum Bond. Her phone
number is 212-633-0080.

She is out of the office until Friday. If you don't want to wait for
her to e-mail me back -- and I don't know how quickly she'll respond
-- you can call her Friday morning. If you don't want to wait that
long, then you can call Mr. Hickerson at CSFB.

Re: your other question, at:
I am planning to call CSFB's press office tomorrow if they don't
e-mail me back by then. But I have a feeling it might not be until
next week that I can get the remaining information for you. I have to
assume that office is swamped and I doubt we have high priority!

Are you still trying to get the remaining answers?

Clarification of Answer by nancylynn-ga on 22 Apr 2004 14:25 PDT

I thought you were going to call Mr. Hickerson around the end of
March! I'm a little flabbergasted!

My colleague jbf777-ga was good enough to talk to him on your behalf.
As I'd posted several weeks ago, Mr. Hickerson was aware of your
questions at GA and expected you to call him. (It's possible that by
now he's forgotten all about it.)

I suggest you ask him about the few remaining questions for your
related question for which I couldn't find the answers. The media
people at contacted at CSFB in NYC never got back to me, which isn't

I was left with only a few hanging threads on head of depts., such as
head of purchasing, and I'd suggested you ask Mr. Hickerson to put you
in touch with someone at the company who could answer the few
questions I couldn't.

I really think you should give Mr. Hickerson a call ASAP. After so
much time passed w/o hearing from you, I assumed you had spoken to him
-- weeks ago. Again, he expected to hear from you at the end of March.
Hickerson's phone number is 212-325-2205.

The contact person at Kirshenbaum Bond, CSFB's ad agency, is Karen
Ciola, 212-633-0080.

She never got back to me either, which isn't surprising, as I highly
doubt Kirshenbaum is free to discuss any client w/o that client's
permission. In fact, I assume that would be a contractual violation!
But if Hickerson gives them clearance to speak with you, then I'm sure
you will be able to speak to them.

So, again, please call Mr. Hickerson, who'd indicated to jbf777-ga
that he'd be glad to speak to you.

P.S. Frazier: PLEASE see my clarification, dated March 31, at your
related question:

I listed quite a few remaining dept. heads in that clarification.

I also noted these dead-ends:

*I still can't find any suggestion that the Buy-Side Insights Group,
headed by Glenn Welling, is in New York.

*"Structured Products" remains a dead-end. All I know is that division
of CSFB became caught up in the Enron scandal.

* Communications Director -- I simply can't find that person. I'm sure
Mr. Hickerson (who is the Director of Branding & Advertising) can give
you that person's name, when you talk to him.

* Purchasing: major infrastructure stuff, like computer systems,
Christian Arn is head of service support management. As far as
purchasing smaller items and handling contracts for coffee vendors,
etc., no I couldn't find that person. Please call Mr. Arn, (use CSFB's
main number), to ask him about that.

I'm hoping that when you talk to Mr. Hickerson, he can clarify the
above four points (the first two of which I think are total
dead-ends), or direct you to someone else at CSFB who can go over
those few remaining items with you.

But again, please make sure you read my final clarification at:
