Late in the 1800s Louis Desanges was commission to paint a series of
painting of the men that had been awarded the Victoria Cross.
One of those paintings is of Lieutenant Farquharson winning his V.C.
at Lucknow, India. He was the first of 14 men awarded the V.C. in his
regiment, "the Black Watch"

I am trying to locate an reproduction of this painting be it in a
poster format or even a large format book.
One possibility is a book called: Ultimate Spectacle:
A Visual History of the Crimean War (Documenting the Image) by Ulrich
Keller but I don't want to spend $75.00 for the book to find out.
Another possibility:
J.W.M. Hichberger, ?Democratising glory? The Victoria Cross paintings
of Louis Desanges?, Oxford Art Journal 7 (1985), pp. 42-51 [Library
photocopy collection]
An acceptable answer will include a source for purchasing the print in
poster format, the name/author of a book containing the painting, or
an equivielent. Suggestions to call the British National Army Museum
to see if they will give me the original will not be considered a
vaild answer ;0) |
