I'm looking for a list of famous MEN who never married. These men can be living or dead, but it's crucial that they've been contributors to society in a positive manner. Please make this list MUCH longer than the one being compiled on famous women. See 320630. | |

Hugh Hefner may pop to the top of the list as a "famous bachelor" but he's been married twice. His lifestyle certainly has not been impacted by his marital status. http://www.brainyencyclopedia.com/encyclopedia/h/hu/hugh_hefner.html Hugh Hefner Hugh Marston Hefner (born April 9th, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois, USA) was the founder of Playboy magazine and became its leading archetype -- the sexually open and financially well-off swinger, the "man's man." He reportedly has an IQ of 150, and he has certainly been very adept at human management skills. He is also a charismatic and highly persuasive individual. Hefner has been married twice. His 1959 breakup of his first marriage to Millie Williams, whom he married in 1949, is believed linked to his commencing his Playboy empire. His daughter Christie, born in 1954, is from this marriage. Christie joined her father's editorial staff, and now holds the title of Chairman of Playboy. He later married Playmate Kimberley Conrad in 1988. Conrad later became Playmate of the Year in 1989. This marriage broke up in 1998. Two sons were issue of this marriage -- Marston, born 1990 and Cooper, born 1991. During this period, Hefner lived monogamously. |

It's worth opening a new question to find out how there's conclusive evidence of Hugh Hefner doing the following: "During this period, Hefner lived monogamously." Best regards, Omnivorous-GA |

More than one researcher has mentioned Jesus, but of course Dan Brown's book "The Da Vinci Code," has been on the NY Times bestseller list for 52 weeks now. And he's not alone in positing that Jesus was married: "Was Jesus Married?" http://www.grailchurch.org/marriedjesus.htm Best regards, Omnivorous-GA |

Although not all of them refrained from intimate relationships (see: Borgia*), all of the Popes were not married, and so were also many priests and monks. But: - Was it not an occupational requirement? Had they been famous had they not been Popes? Who remembers scores of Bishops, who could have all been, theoretically, the next Pope? - How could they sustain the system, without all of those hard-working women (and married men) serving the Church and contributing their hard-earned money to it? * And don't forget Popess Joan! |

More on Rock Hudson. http://www.filmbug.com/db/279183 Hudson married studio employee Phyllis Gates in 1955, and the news was made known by all the major gossip magazines. The couple divorced in 1958. The truth of the matter is, though, that the studio was using this sham marriage in order to cover Hudson's homosexuality, which would have made him box office poison at the time if it were made known. Hudson continued to have a hidden gay life for the rest of his life, until his homosexuality became known. |

Doh! I hit post instead of cancel and my ramblings went to air. Oh well, keepa dancin' Maria! as Paul Hogan (Croc. Dundee) used to say in the days when he was funny ... It was Liz Hurley who dear foppy Hugh offered to marry when she got knocked up but got knocked back (he and she). And I meant to clarify that when I said that he married Julia Roberts, I meant in the movie, Notting Hill, not 'really' married. But you knew that. And while I'm rambling, the other Hugh, as in Hefner, I look at him with his bevy of beautiful women and shake my head and think "how?" as in "how could they"?!He looks like such an actuary. Not even an accountant-type, just a real nit picking, clerical type -- not a sex god at all! (A whole new movie coming up, "Love Actuary") See ya Stressy mummy |

Hi, Stressed Mum It's always good to hear from you but ... Believe it or not, I am an accountant as lots of happy clients can testify. So, please tread very carefully when referring to us bean counters. We are a sensitive lot. But, I love the sound of that upcoming movie 'Love Actuary' ... With its inevitable sequel 'Love Mortuary'. Warmest regards Bryan |

Hi there Probo, mea culpa, mea culpa. I promise in future I shall
open my mouth only to remove my foot which inevitably finds its way in
there. British bean counters must be far more funky than their Aussie
counterparts ('counter' parts ... get it?! ho, ho) and had I suspected
for even a nanosecond that your good self was one, I should never have
presumed to be so judgemental and narrow minded. Forgive me :(
But hang on a tick, I thought you were Pierce Brosnan. Speaking of
which, James Bond never married did he? Does he count? (Oops,
unintentional pun. Can't help myself!) |

Hi, Stressedmum Even though I am an accountant, my excuse is that I'm not a very good accountant. Regarding James Bond, I seem to recall that he did get married in one of the early movies when Sean Connery was doing his stuff. His bride was either Japanese or Chinese but she soon got bumped off. All the Very Best (and keep an eye open for the new gang of English fast bowlers ... they're having all sorts of fun on their tour of the West Indies). Bryan |

One of the world?s most famous bachelors, the Apostle Paul, said there is a plan. ?Wives,? he wrote, ?submit to your husbands as to the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy.? http://davidsisler.com/01-19-2004.htm The Bachelor Home Companion A practical guide to keeping house like a pig Pocket Books/Atlantic Monthly Press, 1986 "It has a list of famous bachelors, one that only half-jokingly includes "almost all the Popes." http://132.235.238.184/archives/040496/wit.htm |
