Question ID: 320833
VHS/DVD's of Chamberlain's "Wallenberg" & "Hamlet" [at least] WERE on
TV--MAY be in a Hallmark archive in some California university, but
where & would they loan them out to a retired music/English teacher?
[He DID do "Cyrano de Bergerac" on stage, but is there a VIDEO lurking
somewhere?]

Dear F. Hanlon,

I located Wallenberg (sadly, only the film, not the real person) for
purchase. As for the other two, I was not so sccessful. As you
mentioned - one is available in the Berkley library. As for the other
- there is no mentioning that the play was ever filmed.

Would you like Wallenberg (plus, the details of the library) as an answer?

Yes I'll "settle" for 1) the source of "Wallenberg"--is it a
'bootleg'OR made by somebody who had the FIRST home video-recorder? 2)
Yes--please give the contact [Berkeley?] for "Hamlet" also.
Thank you!

Dear F. Hanlon,

A place called "All Occassions Video"
<http://hometown.aol.com/rone10258/All_Occasion_Video.html> has the
video "WALLENBERG: A HERO'S STORY" (1985 NBC production, Parts I and
II), in formats that are transformed to DVD or VHS (your choice), read
the technical details on the page.
Wallenberg is here, in this alphabethical list
<http://hometown.aol.com/gilmorecook/video_log_w.htm>.

As for Hamlet (1970 Hallmarkk production on NBC), [Q:] "Where can I
obtain a copy of the 1970 "Hamlet"?
[A:]
Hamlet is not available on video/DVD, but UCLA (U.S.A.) has "Hamlet"
in their Hallmark Hall of Fame collection, and it is viewable upon
request." (SOURCE: Richard Chamberlain FAQ,
<http://fp.culttv.plus.com/richardchamberlain/faq.htm>)

UCLA's Hallmark all of Fame's site is here:
<http://www.cinema.ucla.edu/hallmark/index.html>

The contact details are:
Print Loans
Motion Picture Collection
UCLA Film and Television Archive
1015 No. Cahuenga Blvd.
Hollywood CA 90038
Fax: (+1-323) 461-6317
E-mail: movies@ucla.edu

But it seems to be an expensive and near-impossible story:
<http://www.cinema.ucla.edu/collections/loanpolicy.html>

If you come there, it might be easier:
Viewing requests can be made in person in 46 Powell Library, by phone
(310) 206-5388, by fax (310) 206-5392, or by e-mail: arsc@ucla.edu.

Unfortunately, this is it. From my searches online, I found that many
Chamberlain fans would love to have it released - and even formed a
perssure group (on Hallmark?) to do it:
Richard Chamberlain Tribute
<http://www.richardchamberlaintribute.com/Actions.html> (scroll down
for the "INTEREST LIST FOR HAMLET").

I did find a sale of its soundtrack, if you're interested:
Chamberlain, Richard
Richard Chamberlain as Hamlet
<http://www.thespinstartshere.com/recs/03/0378.htm> "Soundtrack from
the Hallmark Hall of Fame presentation starring Richard Chamberlain;
Margaret Leighton; Richard Johnson; Michael Redgrave & John Gielgud
with music composed and conducted by John Addison".

Last but not least - I found no evidence that the Cyrano (1973)
production was ever filem. However, I found some site of interest
about this production:
RICHARD CHAMBERLAIN IN "CYRANO DE BERGERAC"

I hope it answers your question - as much as yoru question could be
answered: these three are apparently very rare item. Please contact me
if you need any clarification on this answer before you rate it.

politicalguru gave info that seems to work--but I won't know until the
sources reply! However, probono's was simple-minded--THAT STUFF I can
find on the many Richard Chamberlain 'sites.

Here's a bio on Chamberlain:

http://entertainment.msn.com/celebs/celeb.aspx?c=53681&mp=f

There's no invitation to buy his wallenberg or his Hamlet so it looks
as though they haven't been released on video.

There's absolutely no mention at all about Cyrano, so ditto.

Hey, fhanlon,

You were supposed to rate politicalguru's answer, not my comment.

Comments are freebies and, if mine did seem 'simple-minded', then
that's because I am simple-minded.

I would prefer that this should have been kept secret.

Don't worry, I have made a note not to comment on any of your stuff EVER AGAIN.

Bryan, if it is of any comfort to you, the last thing I would think of
you is "simple minded". And I should think of an answer regarding the
suitcase.

Hi, PG

I got the impression that he had downgraded your rating because of my comment.

But my thoughts are with you ...

I'm OK because I've got a suitcase full of you-know-what.

(Wink, wink ... I'm still counting.)

Bryan, I missed the inside joke, as usual, so just for fun I Googled
your suitcase. There are waaaaay too many possibilities, but if it's
cash, and you're up for company, I like white sand, blue water and
palm trees...

Hi, Cynthia

I am afraid that searching for "suitcase" won't get you where you would like to be.

You will understand that, from time to time. I have to be somewhat
cryptic and I therefore placed the contents of a certain item into a
suitcase.

This was with the idea of laying a false trail and my little deception
seems to have worked!

I'll give you a further clue when we meet up in Melbourne.

Warmest regards

Bryan
