I'm living on borrowed time with my vintage Psion 3a. Please suggest a
modern PDA (say not more than 2-3 years old) which would accept
imported data easily from my 3a.

Dear kosgoda,

As per your comment, I am now 'answering' the question. Still sad that
I could not give you a more positive input .-)

Here a list of a few devices that I can recommend looking into:

Nokia 9290 and Nokia 6820 (interesting keyboard, that one)
Sony Ericsson P700 - P900 depending on your wallet size
Sony Clie TH55 (Palm OS based), Palm Tungsten
HP iPAQ

I am not telling you which one is 'good' or 'bad' since that very much
depends on your personal preferences and usage patterns. However, I
personally am very interested in exploring the Sony Ericsson line of
Phone/ Organizers/ Media Player/ Camera/ whathaveyou.

The Psion/Symbian website features devices using their OS, please see
http://www.symbian.com/ for more info.

Also a nice list of PDAs with some reviews: http://www.pdabuyersguide.com/

All the best with your search,

Dear kosgoda,

I fear you are out of luck. I have been an avid Psion 3 & 5 user
myself, then switched to the Palm Pilot, and now contemplate the
interesting Ericson Phone/Organizers. During these 10 years, the data
formats have changed too much. So, all you can really do is export the
calendar and address book as CSV files (text files, with fields
separated by commas), and export the notes etc, as text or RTF files.
Then you would potentially have to reformat some of the CSV files, to
match requirements of your new applications.

To make it short, what I want to tell you is that it really does not
matter very much what PDA you change to -- there is no easy route left
:-( Try out three different styles for yourself in a shop and then
pick the one you like most. Transferring your data will always involve
some effort.

If you want to stick with Psion, get something with the Symbian OS in
it, as that is done by PSION PLC. However, do not expect it to be even
remotely related to the Psion OS. Also, not may products feature
'real' keyboards, if that is a must for you, things get even harder.

Have a look at the Ericsson T900, or the Noika 9290 (one is more
keyboard based, one is more pen based). Alternatively, have a look at
the Palm line of prodcuts, such as the Zire, which is rather sleek.
All these prodcuts easily link to PCs, and importing your old data
should at least be feasible, if not easy.

If you think this comments is actually worth the $5 you wanted to
spend, I'll glady post it as an answer...

Friendly greetings,

    Philip

Try the casiopea from casio. You can find them on Ebay for around
$100. Excelent PDA even if it's a 2000 model. Has a backlight, 7 hour
battery life, can play "some" games, and has an expansion slot for
memory. It's a great PDA for what it can do, and it won't bust your
wallet.

Philip, that's really great, just what I need. Somehow I didn't think
it was going to be that easy - yes - go ahead and post as an answer -
could't imagine anything more comprehensive!

agentneo - many thanks as well - will follow up the info.
