I am a Scottish undergraduate student. My American girlfriend is coming to the UK in June on a fianceé visa. We intend to get married very shortly after she arrives so that we can both work through the summer. I have one year of university left, after which I would like to move to the US with my wife. This would be around May/June next year. How would we go about this as a married couple, bearing in mind that she will still be a US citizen but not living in the US? Would we have to be separated for any great length of time? Finally how long would the whole process be likely to take, from the submission of the necessary paperwork to permission being granted for us to live and work in the US? I realise that these things vary greatly but will we be talking months or years? |
