Question ID: 321698
Is there any reason not to start up a car when the air conditioner is
turned on, or to turn on the air conditioner of a car right after it
was turned off?
(With air conditioners in the house, it is recommended to wait 5
minutes before turning them on again).

When I said 'is there any reason', I meant can the operation cause
damage or wear and tear, that is more than what a normal 'turning on'
of the AC does.

There are good reasons for not wanting to start-up the car on a hot
day with the air conditioning on, before venting the interior, in
terms of cooling efficiency, but I cannot comment on the mechanics.

The other most common piece of advice seems to be to run the a/c
frequently for short periods (even in the winter) to insure that the
mechanical parts remain well-lubricated.
