Hello Civiman~

There are five major reed grasses that are native to the U.S.:

Begin by taking a look at Larner Seeds? list of ?native grass seed:?
http://www.larnerseeds.com/_pages/native_grass_seed.html Here, you?ll
find a description and seeds for ?Calamagrotis Nutkaensis? (Pacific
Reed Grass), and can purchase seeds. To see what this reed grass
looks like, visit the Mostly Natives website:
http://www.mostlynatives.com/notes/calamagrostisnutkaensis.htm

There?s also ?Phragmites australis? (Reed Grass); you can buy seeds at
The Alpine Garden: http://www.thealpinegarden.com/seedlist.htm. To see
pictures, go to http://www.funet.fi/pub/sci/bio/life/plants/magnoliophyta/magnoliophytina/liliopsida/poaceae/phragmites/index.html#australis

Calamovilfa longifolia (Sand Reed Grass) seeds are available at Plants
of the Southwest, along with a photograph:
http://www.plantsofthesouthwest.com/cgi-bin/plantview.cgi?_recordnum=1013

You?ll also find seeds for Phragmites australis (Tall Reed Grass) at
Alpine Garden: http://www.thealpinegarden.com/seedlist.htm . A photo
of the plant may be found at The Cedar Creek National History Area
website: http://cedarcreek.umn.edu/plants/album/phragmites.html

Calamagrostis acutiflora (Feather Reed Grass) can be seen on the
Arkansas Home & Garden website:
http://www.arhomeandgarden.org/landscape/ArkansasSelect/2003/default.asp
You can buy pots at Santa Rosa Gardens:
http://www.santarosagardens.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=62
 or from Walmart: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=1675922&sourceid=21443320872726330058
I was unable to find a source that sold seeds for this grass.

Kriswrite

I have discovered the reason seeds are not available for feather reed
grass; the flowers are sterile, and therefore, the plant cannot be
grown from seed.
See "A choice tall grass" at Flowering Gardening Made Easy for more

In many parts of the country, Phragmites is considered an invasive
species - it spreads rapidly to nearby wetlands and will displace
native plants. You may want to check out local rules, or check with
the local forest preserve district for their input before planting.
