In the context of this question, "hosted email services" refers to
companies who will provide managed hosting of an email server or
servers (Exchange, Sendmail, Postfix, et al) for a small or mid-sized
business (i.e. 500 users or below).

Web hosting is a different animal from this, and not really what I'm
trying to learn about.

Instead of sorting by revenues derived from hosted email services, it
is also OK to sort by number of hosted user accounts.

Web hosting companies are not really what I'm looking for. I'm looking
for companies that host email solutions for small and mid-sized
businesses. Companies that, for example, provide an Exchange server
and a personalized domain for a company. (Sendmail, Postfix, and the
rest, too.)

Get a dedicated server instead of a shared server.  A web hosting
company is really a server hosting company.  Email server, web server,
ftp server... It doesnt matter.   There all servers and it is all
delivered via the web.

$50 a month is a good deal

500 users is not much.
