Please help me locate either Peter Tompkins or Christopher Bird (if
they are still alive). They are co-authors of the book The Secret Life
of Plants. I tried a search myself ending up at Harper Collins
publishers in which they told me to send a letter to the attention of
the authors at their address, but I've heard nothing.

Hello kukul-ga,

This has been a very frustrating search but I believe I?ve found some
resources to help you with your search.

Christopher Bird died in 1996 at age 68. I haven?t found anything to
show definitively whether Peter Tompkins is alive or dead but I can
point you to some sources that might be able to answer your question.
I?ve located his son and likely contact information for him. He should
have current information about his father. I?ve also found some people
who have been associated with Peter Tompkins who should be able to
help you with locating him. Would this information meet your needs?

I look forward to your clarification.

Thank you. If you think I have enough info to find Peter Tompkins then
we'll call this closed. Thanks so much for the hard work in finding
what you have. Is there a way i can reach you specifically again if I
need to take this further? Thanks again. Wayne S

Hello again kukul-ga,

I?m glad you find the information furnished by s3com-ga helpful.
s3com-ga is not a Google Answers Researcher and you will not have to
pay anything until someone posts an official answer. The article cited
by s3com-ga?s comment was dated January 2003 and stated that Tompkins
was 75 at the time of the interview. The author of the article, J.
Douglas Kenyon, is Publisher/Editor of the magazine. I hope he will
respond to your questions.

I suggest that you leave this question open and perhaps another
Researcher will be able to give you verified contact information for
Peter Tompkins. If you can?t get a response from Atlantis Rising I
will be happy to post the information I?ve listed in my clarification
if you would accept it as the official answer.

Best wishes for your quest for the elusive Peter Tompkins.

Hello again kukul-ga,

In a message you posted earlier (which has now been removed by the
editors) you said: ?A lead they thought might work out for me didn?t.?
I presume that you are referring to the Douglas Kenyon and/or Atlantis
Rising contact leads.

As I said in my prior clarification, I can give you contact
information for several people who might be able to put you in touch
with Peter Tompkins including Christopher Bird?s widow and Peter
Tompkins?s son. I don?t know whether they will be able to provide you
with the information you seek. Will you accept the several contact
leads as an answer?

I look forward to your clarification.

On the Death of Christopher Bird

I managed to find a short obituary of Christopher Bird in the New York
Times of Monday, May 6, 1996. It turns out he died last Thursday in a
hospital (outside Atlanta, Georgia) after a stroke that he suffered at
home. He had a Web page but it is inactive. However, I do believe his
e-mail address is active: birdnest@mindspring.com. His widow's name is
Shabari-Lynda Boland.

As for Jerry Haslett's query about the whereabouts of Peter Tompkins,
I do not know myself; however, I believe a query to Chris's e-mail
address or to Nancy Kolenda at the Center for Frontier Sciences at
Temple University (V2058A@VM.TEMPLE.EDU) might track down the elusive
Peter.

A geologist's adventures with Bimini beachrock and Atlantis true believers
Skeptical Inquirer, Jan-Feb, 2004, by Eugene A. Shinn

In the mid-1970s I was director of a small field station for the U.S.
Geological Survey (USGS) located on Fisher Island off Miami Beach. ?
It was because of our core drill that a well-known writer, adventurer,
and New Age thinker, Peter Tompkins, asked if we would go to Bimini
(just fifty miles from our field station) to core and determine if the
site could indeed be lost Atlantis.

About the Author
Eugene A. Shinn is a geologist in St. Petersburg, Florida. Address:

***** You might be able to get contact information for Peter Tompkins
from Eugene Shinn. This article discusses their association on a
