I have a relatively large ACT! 2000 contact database that I want to be
able to sync to my Palm Tungsten E. Unfortunately, around the time
the database passed 10,000 contacts, the Palm started refusing to sync
with the database. We currently have 10,751 contacts. If I export a
few thousand of the ACT! contacts to a new ACT! database, I can sync
to it, so the problem seems to be the number of contacts. I have many
megabytes of memory free on the Palm after copying the new database,
so I know it is not just a memory issue.

I have been using "ACT! Palmpilot Link" software which comes on the ACT! 2000
installation CD.

I want to stay away from ACT! for Palm OS because it requires ACT! 6.
The database I want to import is shared by 22 users, so the cost of
software and training for everyone to upgrade to ACT! 6 would be
pretty high just to be able to have one user sync with a Palm. Also,
the ACT! for Palm OS documentation states that "performance is best
with 1,000 contacts or less."

Primary question: Is there a reasonably priced (under $100) alternate
contact manager for the Palm that will handle more contacts and sync
with ACT! 2000?

Minor secondary question: What is the actual number of contacts that
the Palm Contacts program can handle?
