I noticed this has been sitting around for a while so I thought I would give some suggestions. First, as will all medical questions, the physican is the most important source of what is proper and correct for the patient. If you have a problem with the physician, get a second opinion from a properly licensed medical doctor who specializes type of problem the patient is suffering from. It is a good sign that there is improvement after only 4 days. The following site is one that will be very helpful for you and provide many resources, as well as help you find a support group: National Stroke Association http://209.107.44.93/NationalStroke/RecoveryAndRehabilitation/default.htm |

I would advise you to investigate a stroke rehabilitation program. With your mom's stroke only four days old she still has much recovery ahead. She would greatly benefit from Physical Therapy to work on balance and coordination. Unfortunately, the vertebral artery system supplies blood to parts of the brain that influence balance, coordination and vision. This is why she may become nauseated or have vision problems. If she were in an inpatient rehabilitation program she could also receive occupational therapy and speech therapy to work on her vision, swallowing and activities of daily living. Please refer to the following link for more information on stroke rehab: http://www.ninds.nih.gov/health_and_medical/pubs/poststrokerehab.htm |
