I am primarily looking for the family history leading to the European
regions and towns of origin for the ancestors of the below named
individual.

I would like the names of the  specific ancestors who form the clear
chain back through US history, across the Atlantic, and to the
European towns of origin (believed to be English and Dutch) for the
families.  One practical use of this information will be to plan a
European vacation
tracing the roots of this individual.

I would like you to go as far back as possible to determine if their
were still earlier "enclaves" for the families in a certain region or
town.

I would also like to know when these families emmigrated to the United
States, even the crossing dates, immigration points, and the sailing
dates and names of the ships if possible.

The individual is William Creighton Peet, III (aka, 'Tony') born May
21 1957, San Francisco, California.  Father, William Creighton Peet,
Jr - born 1907 in New York (I believe, Rye, NY).  Mother's Maiden
name: Helen Hope, born 1914 New York City.  Grandfather on father's
side also named William Creighton Peet (I believe).  Grandfather on
mother's side is Walter Ewing Hope.

I would like a good and thorough, but not overly complex answer to
this question.  I do NOT want the life histories of every individual,
just their names, place of residence, and occupation etc will suffice.
 The certainty that they are legitimately part of the chain is more
important to me. (FYI, I know very little about Genealogy if that is
not already apparent, so keeping it simple is a plus.)

That said, if there are individuals you come across who are famous or
infamous -- please include any juicy stories, along with any other
information you deem interesting. I would also like a summary of the
resources you used in finding the information so I can dig around
myself if I chose to later.

I think I was able to trace back several ancestral lines to England,
mid-16th century, with the results getting more detailed the further
in the past they are located. I have not found any famous people, but
there are some of the earliest English settlers in America among those

--I'm afraid you only answered half the question: there is no
information provided for the mother's side of the the family (Helen
Hope).

--A couple of other small details:  you begin with "William Creighton
Peet, II" (the second).  The subject individual is "William Creighton
Peet, III" (the third).  Please establish the initial links. Also, the
dates on the 1st generation you listed are missing,  and (again) I was
looking for a clearer set of links from the subject (WCP,III) back
through father, grandfather etc.-- in other words, more detail for the
19th & 20th century, please. To the best of my knowledge, it would
look like:

And yes! Brevoort and Potts are indeed highly relevant family names as
far as I know.

Other names, on mother's/Hope side, which mostlikely have relevance if
found:  Talcott, Ewing, Austen, Florence, Grant, Shriver.

On Peet side:  Jack, Robert, Sally, Zelia, Meta (sp?)

However, Krumbhaar and Doddridge have NO relevance whatsoever as far as I know.

connected with the family history, I have now managed to locate the
correct line of ancestors. I will continue to work on this, but I
wanted to let you already know about my progresses. Here is a brief
introduction to my first step:

On 3 February 1944, a John Krumbhaar Peet died in Corinth, Alcorn
County, MS. That man was born on 17 July 1910 in Rye, Westchester
County, NY. The funeral records do not only provide his basic vital
data, but also the names of his parents, wife, and brother-in-law:

His father was William Creighton Peet, of New Orleans, Louisiana.

His mother was Meta Brevoort, of New York, NY.

His wife was Elizabeth Snowden Peet, 33 years old then.

And his brother-in-law was one George G. Snowden, of New York, NY.

Most important for research on the Creighton Peet family are, of
course, the parents' names. I could not believe that it was a mere
coincedence that a Meta Brevoort showed up, a name you recall as
relevant for the family history.
So I made this my starting point. And I discovered that John Krumbhaar
Peet was the younger brother of William Creighton Peet. Here is how it
fits together:

Meta Brevoort's full maiden name was Meta Brevoort Potts, born 16
February 1878. From an 1880 Census record, we know about her family:

born in Pennsylvania, and Sarah Brevoort Potts, a 46-year-old
houswife. They had 4 children at that time, all born in New York:

You will recognize both William Creighton Peet and John Krumbhaar

there can be no doubt: William Creighton Peet, the father of William
Creighton Peet III, was the brother of John Krumbhaar Peet. And his
parents were William Craighton Peet and Meta Brevoort Potts. With this
as  a sure base, I can and will go on with my research.

Currently, I have traced back one line of ancestors to Germany, where
Moritz Krumbhaar, an early ancestor of Emma Zelia Krumbhaar (ans this
of William Creighton Peet) was born in 1555.

It will take some time to search and organize all that data; please be
patient. As soon as I have analyzed the material available, I will
post the results of my work here for you.

Finally, here are the results of my efforts!

A small disappointment at the beginning: The search for any ancestors
or relatives of Helen Hope or her sister remained, alas, fruitless,
though I tried everything possible.
But for the paternal side of the family, I have found an amazing
ancestral line, going back as far as to the 1550s, to Germany, France,
and Belgium, to name but a few examples.
Also, I would like to point out that getting recent genealogical data
(from the 20th century) online is almost impossible. I have done lots
of genealogy research, and I have encountered this phenomenon again
and again. Unfortunately, I can't change this - I would, if I only
could.
But even without extensive data for the 20th century, there is lots of
amazing information on your ancestors now. I have made sure to add
links where ever possible, so you can do more research at will.

There is not more I can do now - I searched through all the sources at
my command, most of them without result. Please examine the fruit of
almost 14 hours work without rest. I hope you will like it.

"Had considerable artistic and literary ability. Carved his name in
Mammoth Cave, Kentucky, on July 4, 1833 while exploring it. He was one
of two discoverers of Coral Grove in the cave and of the pit which
bears his name: Alexander's Pit. He died in a mental hospital in
Hartford, Connecticut. No children."

ancestral line of W.C. Peet III is outstanding.  I am just going to
repeat it for emphasis:  I very much appreciate all the time you spent
in organizing the information to make it understandable and readable:
that is just as important to me as the information itself.

Of course, I was hoping to get considerably more information on the
maternal, Hope, side of the parentage and more information on the Peet
line going back.  But in my own mind, your extraordinary effort more
than compensates.

Scriptor's integrity, honesty, and commitment relating to my question
was outstanding.  Although some of the information I had hoped to
obtain was not available, his clear, in-depth presentation of what he
had been able to find was extraordinary -- and leaves me completely
satisfied with the results.

Read with interest the research.  Would like to call your attention to
the lineage of Rebecca Butler, wife of Samuel B. McCutchon.  Her
father William Butler and his four brothers were very famous during
the Revolutionary War as the "Fighting Butlers" of Carlisle.  There is
a historical plaque in their memory in Carlisle, PA today.  When her
brother Richard Butler died childless, she and her husband Samuel
McCutchon acquired his plantation in LA called "Ormonde."  Rebecca's
grandfather Thomas Butler Sr. was a gunsmith who immigrated from
Ireland in 1848 where they supposedly came from the Irish aristocracy.
 There are Butler castles standing to this day in Ireland.  Most
notable is Kilkenney Castle.  You can check out more about this family
