My wife (under 60, on disability for many years) has just applied for
SS Medicare, Part B. After she completed the usual application form,
I(!!) had to fill out one entitled "Request For Employment
Information", where it asks if SHE was covered under MY employer's
Health Plan (yes), when coverage started (03/1975), has it ended (no),
and when I worked for this company (From: 02/1/1975, To: 11/1/2000),
and was I still employed (no/retired). When I submitted the forms to
the agent I learned my wife would be charged an extra cost/penalty of
10% for each year she was eligible but did not register. Can you
please find an explanation and the logic behind this strange penality
rule affecting HER because she was/is covered under MY employer's
health plan (ongoing now since my retirement, and during the prior 26
yrs. when I was working)? Thanks.
