Dr. McGarty has over thirty years of experience in the
telecommunications industry. Dr. McGarty founded Zephyr
Communications, an international broadband and IP services company in
1996, where he was Chief Executive Officer until 2002. Prior to
Zephyr, from August 1986 until June 1990, Dr. McGarty was Corporate
Director of Research and Development of NYNEX Corporation and was the
Managing Director of NYNEX Technology Investment, a venture capital
fund. From December 1990 until January 1992, Dr. McGarty was a Senior
Vice President at NYNEX and in charge of operations for the NYNEX
Mobile Communications Company, a cellular carrier. Dr. McGarty spent
five years in the Broadband business as Vice President of Warner Cable
and as Group President at Warner Communications, and six years in the
satellite communications business as General Manager of COMSAT?s first
non-regulated business. Dr. McGarty holds three degrees from MIT,
including a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering. Dr. McGarty is currently
Vice Chairman of the National Academy of Sciences Board on the
Internet and is also a member of the advisory Board of the MIT
Internet Telephony Consortium, where he actively participates in its
research and strategic directions. Dr. McGarty serves on the board of
directors of several companies, including Zephyr Communications and
MDSI Mobile Data Systems, Inc. a publicly traded company.
