where can i find an internet service which offers translation of texts
of various kinds into English (both British and American), and/or, a
service that offers proofreading and editing of English texts of
various kinds by qualified American and British natives. I am not
necessarily looking for a single place, as it would be unrealistic to
expect one place to provide high quality service for a variaty of
different texts -- or am i wrong?? I am only interested in the
highest, professional quality, i.e. work which would render a text fit
to be published in any major magazine, newspaper, etc.

Dear Spingwind

Although it is not an internet service as such, the Society for
Editors and Proofreaders (the UK professional body) maintains a
searchable online directory of established editors and proofreaders;
translators and US English specialists are also listed. You can search
the directory online - would details of the directory be of interest
to you?

Kind regards

Well, I know about the SYSTRAN translation website, which can be
reached through regular Web Google. This is mechanized and can be
imprecise. They also have human translation for a fee. Such human
translation can be downright precise, since computer translation is
far from perfect, especially if the text is very specialized. There
are very skilled human translators that can tackle almost any subject
within a given subfield, and the more precise they are, the more you
will pay for the service. Familiarity with the subject is required
because of vocabulary and usage of terms, and sometimes the style of
the author is of paramount importance - take highbrow literature for
example. I hope I have helped you about this.

Hi Spingwind,

I have used many editing and proofreading services, for our business
and have found one of the best to be Papercheck. You can find them at
http://www.papercheck.com; they have both British and American
editors.

Cheers
