According to a poll by the Society for Human Resource Management and
USA Today, the three types of industries whose employees are least
satisfied with their jobs are service industries, manufacturing
(non-durable goods), and health-related industries.
"This survey provides comprehensive information about factors
important to employees in assessing overall job satisfaction. SHRM and
USATODAY.com jointly conducted a poll of employees and HR
professionals to compare their perceptions about the importance of 16
aspects such as career advancement opportunity, flexibility to balance
life and work, compensation/pay and others to employee job
satisfaction. Results are analyzed by industry and organization size
for HR and employees respondents as well as age and gender for
employee respondents. Released in December 2002."

"In terms of which industries have the most dissatisfied employees,
services (profit) employees topped off the list with 22% of these
employees indicating that they are not satisfied in their current
jobs, followed by manufacturing (non-durable goods) (20%) and health
employees (16%)."

For a detailed breakdown of job satisfaction by industry, see Table 2,
"Overall Satisfaction of Employees with Current Job by Industry," in
the .pdf document linked above (this table is found on page 29 of the
.pdf file.)
Here's another source which mentions that the three industries whose
employees express the least job satisfaction are service,
manufacturing, and health:
"In the SHRM research, employees in the nonprofit, financial and
education industries all reported higher levels of job satisfaction.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) these are all some
of the fastest-growing industries. At the same time employees in the
manufacturing industry, where lower levels of growth are expected,
were among the least satisfied.
There are a few significant exceptions to this trend. Employees in the
service sector-not including nonprofits-were found in the SHRM
[Society for Human Resource Management] research to be the most
dissatisfied with their work; according to the BLS the largest and
fastest-growing major industry group is the service sector. High
levels of job dissatisfaction in this sector will inevitably translate
into high levels of job dissatisfaction overall. The health industry
is another job sector that is predicted to grow but here again, health
workers were among the most dissatisfied."

My strategy in locating this material consisted of Google searches
using the search terms "job satisfaction," "employee satisfaction" and
"worker satisfaction" in combination with the terms "by industry,"
"poll," "study," "survey," "report," and "results."
