Hello scotty321-ga,
The quote from the sign is also the company motto. It reads, "The
Story Is King". The sign is mentioned on the extras from the DVD of
Monster's Inc., and there is an extra on the DVD titled, "The Story Is
King". I quote from "The Eagle Online":
"
In the main office of Pixar Animation Studios, there is a sign that
reads: "Story is King," according to the "Monsters Inc." DVD.
"
and from MacGamer:
"
The guys in the Pixar story department have a sign up on their wall
that reads, "Story is King."
"
I think you got the quote you did from an interview with Monster's
Inc. Animator Matthew Luhn who said, "You can have the best
computer-animated fur in the world, but if the story's no good, nobody
cares." Also, a closely modelled quote is from the co-director of the
same movie, Lee Unkrich, who said, "You can have some really stunning
imagery and technical innovation, but after about 5 minutes the
audience is bored and they want something more interesting -- story."
I'm sure all of the animators, story writers, and directors, have all
said similar comments which fit into their company motto. They take
great pride in their work, and it shows.
