I am attending a birthday dinner next week for a friend's husband. He is 35 and I can best describe his interests/passions as: KISS Jaws Conservatism/politics His one-year old daughter (who just learned to walk) Poker Given a rather eclectic taste, can you come up with some good ideas for a birthday present? I'm splitting the cost of the gift with one other person, so I'd like to keep the cost to around or under $50. I was thinking perhaps a gift basket with different items, each related to his interests, but don't have many ideas past that. I know he has a lot of KISS memorabilia already (DVDs, CDs, books, figurines, wine bottles, etc.) so I'm not sure how easy it would be to find something unique or that he doesn't already have. Your suggestions for a birthday gift would be greatly appreciated! |

A really great book ... How about Herbert O Yardley's 'The Education of a Poker Player' (1957) There are 115 copies available on Addall, to suit every budget: http://used.addall.com/ Incidentally, a new biography on Yardley has just been published ... Amazon shipped me a copy yesterday: 'Reader of Gentlemen's Mail' by David Kahn. Don't know yet if it's any good. |

How about a severed head, or hand, as a token of your love and adoration? |

A guy with a one-year old daughter? "They" need a train set: http://shop.vendio.com/taof1/item/576555818/index.html?s=1080731159 Or if that doesn't work, something that flies: http://www.gatelys.com/blcore1.html And since she may be a future pilot, the daughter needs one of these. After our daughter was beyond toddling, this was mounted on monofilament from the ceiling in her bedroom: http://store.yahoo.com/iqkids2/ridonwoodair.html More traditional, but still a necessity for every child, is a Hot Wheels track. Have fun! Omnivorous-GA |

A selection of favorite read-aloud children's books would be fun. I recently attended a baby-shower where everyone was asked to bring their favorite children's book inscribed for the baby in lieu of greeting cards for the shower presents. It was fun to see the reactions of delight at many of the titles which were sometimes accompanied by spontaneous recitations. Reading aloud to a one year old is wonderful and can start a habit for years to come. ~ czh ~ |

Those ducks are absolutely hilarious! And for a dad who no doubt wants to get his daughter started off right in terms of music appreciation, they will definitely do the trick. I'm sold! Many many thanks =) Claim your prize if you will by inserting as an answer. |
