Hello winterlude~

Early symptoms of chronic wasting disease include:

? changes in normal animal behavior
? excessive weight loss
? salivation
? loss of coordination, stumbling
? tremors

(?Chronic Wasting Disease Alliance,?

)

In later stages, deer and elk will appear disoriented and lethargic;
they often are excessively thirsty, urinate frequently, and droop
their head and ears. In the very earliest stages, animals may display
no symptoms. Chronic wasting disease is *always*deadly in deer and
elk. It may be more likely to occur in areas where deer (or elk) are
crowded together, or where they gather at man-made food and water
stations.

Anyone seeing a deer or exhibiting any of these symptoms should
immediately contact authorities.

Symptoms of brainworm (sometimes called ?deerworm?) include:

* damaged vision
* lameness
* stiffness

In later stages, the animal may walk in circles and carry it?s head in
a tilted position, until it finally is paralyzed . ?In one study,
moose, elk and mule deer appeared listless and began to show slight
neurological symptoms 10-60 days after infection. In all the
experimental cases, there were remissions of a short duration.?
(?Brainworm,? Mule Deer Net:
http://www.muledeernet.org/dis-brainworm.htm ) Brainworm is contagious
among many animals, but does not affect humans.
