I RE-INSTALLED MY WINDOWS XP AND NOW I CAN'T CHANGE THE BEHAVIOR OF
THE ICONS IN THE TASKBAR. WHEN I GO TO THE NOTIFICATION AREA AND CLICK
ON THE LITTLE WINDOWS TO "HIDE"- ALWAYS SHOW"- ECT; THEY WILL NOT
CHANGE TO ANYTHING OTHER THAN WHAT THEY ALREADY SHOW. IN OTHER WORDS,
I HAVE NO OPTIONS.
IS THERE ANTHING SHORT OF RE-INSTALLING WINDOWS THAT I CAN DO ?

Try this:

Delete all copies of IconCache.db and reboot.

Download TWEAKUI for XP, from here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

And use the REPAIR - REBUILD ICONS.

Hope that helps!
