Microsoft sell a database system called SQL Server. It is used by companies for storing, retreiving and making use of data. Software developers write software programs based on it and DataBase Administrators (DBAs) administer the databases. Some specialist companies provide software tools to make the jobs of the software developers and DBAs easier. This question relates to these tool vendors. I'm interested in some numbers that might help understand this market: 1. An estimate of the numbers of developers and DBAs using SQL Server. 2. The number of tool vendors. 3. Which tool vendors are doing well in the various categories. 4. What the most popular products are. 5. What segmentations the market might have (e.g. products for DBAs vs Developers). Sites aimed at developers and dbas looking for info are: http://www.sql-server-performance.com http://www.sqlservercentral.com, (old now) http://www.mssqlserver.com http://www.sqlpass.org - however these sites seem to miss out on some apparently big players like NETiQ and Embarcadero. |
