The Motivational Speaker
http://hometown.aol.com/jsalleyfan/Speaker.htm
"Referred to as "Sensai" (teacher) on the World Champion 2000 Lakers,
John Salley has earned the reputation as one of the smartest and most
inspiring athletes in the world today.
A charming and talented communicator filled with amazing stories both
on and off the court, John was coined "The Best Interview in
Basketball" by the Sports Writer's Association in 1989 and 1990.
The number 11 pick in the 1986 NBA Draft from Georgia Tech, John
helped turn around the Detroit Piston franchise and helped lead them
to back-to-back World Championships in 1989 and 1990. In 1996 coach
Phil Jackson used John as a defensive "guru", especially against
superstar centers Shaquille O'Neil and Patrick Ewing, for the greatest
basketball team in history, the 1996 World Champion Chicago Bulls.
Then, while in Hollywood to pursue his television career, John put a
call in to the Lakers' new head coach and tried out for the team. The
result, a fourth Championship ring which makes John the only NBA
player in its 52-year history to win a ring with three different
teams.
Now retired from basketball -- at least for the moment, John Salley is
bringing the same winning spirit to his television, movie and speaking
careers.
Starting with Salley's Alley and Showtime at Halftime, both for NBC,
John has a long list of television show appearances including: I Can't
Believe You Said That, a game show on the Fox Family Network,
re-occurring guest spots on Politically Incorrect and The Late, Late
Show as well as appearances on Match Game, Hollywood Squares, Malcolm
and Eddie, Son of the Beach and DAG. Most recently, John hosted BET
Live for 86 episodes and is presently working on projects for Showtime
and Fox.
John's movie career includes appearances in Bad Boys with Martin
Lawrence and Will Smith, The Ultimate Christmas Present on the Disney
Channel, Eddie with Whoopi Goldberg and upcoming movies Bad Boys II
(July 2003) and Coast to Coast (2003) with Richard Dryfuss. As if this
wasn't enough, he also did comedy stand-up, head-lining in Las Vegas
at "Catch a Rising Star" in Balley's Hotel along with Paul Rodriguez,
George Lopez and Chris Rock.
But John's deepest driving passion has been to share the kind of rare
motivation that has propelled him in his own life. Told that he could
never be a basketball player, John proved everyone wrong. Told that he
wasn't smart enough to go to college, John graduated from Georgia
Tech. Told that Hollywood was filled with dreamers, John headed to Los
Angeles and has made a success in virtually everything he has touched.
His infectious personality and unwavering positive attitude has
generated extraordinary results for everyone around him. With keynotes
for corporate giants such as Chrysler and IBM, and community
organizations such as Pediatric Aids Foundation and the Multiple
Sclerosis Society in Miami, Athletes & Entertainers for Kids and
Sports Spectacular in Los Angeles, and Master of Ceremonies roles for
such events as the congressional Black Caucus Sports and Politics Gala
in Washington, D. C. and the NAMIC "Vision Awards" in Los Angeles,
John has proven that his charm and motivation work in whatever room
his 6-feet 11 three-quarters inch frame can fit into.
John's favorite topics blend his own special take on life and success
with some of the most fascinating behind-the-scenes sports stories any
audience has ever heard. They include:
Say Yes to Success - How to rid oneself of all the negativity in one's life
Pressure Makes Diamonds - How to deal with the stress of life (when
facing it and being able to shine through it)
The Value of Time - The need, the want and the value of life's most precious gift
John Salley is married, has 2 children and lives in Los Angeles. He
will travel to any location in the world to speak -- any place that
doesn't have spiders that is :-)"
